If you have seen Sofia Coppola's short film "Lick the Star" it is about a group of teenage girls who try to poison the boys in their school by hiding rat poison in their lunches, inspired by the story "Flowers in the attic". I just feel like as TVS is similar in style to her earlier work, Coppola just wanted to add an element of it into her first full length feature.
