the dad

does anyone else's heart really break for him?

Yeah, I thought he was such a good guy, he always tried to be nice and fair to everyone you could see he really wanted to be liked, the way he showed those planes to the boys and stuff. I felt bad for him almost the most, if not the most.

In a way, you had to feel for him since he obviously longed for some sort of male bonding outside of school. He wasn't all there though whether through grief or just naturally. I was a little pissed off though that he would barely stand up to his wife and left the raising of the girls primarily to her. He bares a large share of the responsibility because of his inaction.

I really felt for him too :( When he was at school and the girls were no longer there, he seemed to be retreating into a child-like state. The way he said good morning to the window plants made my heart break....he was all "Oh Hello there, did you enjoy your photosynthesis breakfast this morning?" lol....he was such a sweetheart who unfortunately lacked backbone. At least he made a wonderful night happen for his four remaining girls when he convinced the wife to let them attend a dance. Such a haunting film.

I have not seen the film in years, but I slightly recall him being less stringent than his wife. I understood her not wanting them to become wild, but all teens deserve a social life. I agree, they should have talked to someone if not their dad.

I felt bad for him too. I always thought in the back of my mind that he was going to talk to his wife about letting the girls go back to school since they felt like "they couldn't breath." I remember he was standing though and he looked deep in thought. I think if the girls held out a little bit longer or if they at least talked to him, the girls would have gone back to their normal lives. He might have said something like "You know dear, I am a teacher at the school and I will drive the girls to school and back home." I really wish that could have happen; really good film though. One of my favorites.
