Is this movie a prequel?

Is it? I wonder because they did not know what cuss words were before they saw Asses Of Fire. They have been swearing on the tv series way before the movie came out.

South Park is very much like The Simpsons, there is no "real" continuity.
They can change things around just to suit a joke. But they can also make reference to certain events too.

Is it a prequel?
No, it's just a South Park movie.

Perfect answer.

I guess that much like The Simpsons, in time South-Park will have self Mockery internal jokes to emphasize that they're aware that the audience is aware of the lack of continuity...

Simpson's best example for this is the episode where SnowBall-II dies and Lisa spends the whole episode looking and going through numerous cats. She finally gets a Snow-Ball-II like cat from Crazy Cat lady and then proclaims that due to the cat's resemblance, she would call it Snow-Ball-II and pretend that this event never happened. Principle skinner then comes along and makes a remake to the affect of the 'cheapness' of that loophole. Lisa then looks at him and says 'sure thing, Principle Tamzerian'... Skinner then halts and proceeds to say 'Lisa, SnowBall...' and walks away...

It's actually sort of a prequel to the episodes "Do The Handicapped Go To Hell" and "Probably"

^ What? No. Those episodes were made a year AFTER the movie, so they are a sequel to it...

Errr, can you not read?

It's actually sort of a prequel

Note PREQUEL, means set BEFORE.

It makes sense to think that because they had never heard fvck or $hit before the movie, but in the show they say fvck they just bleep it out. Also, Kyle knows Ike is Canadian which in the beginning of the series he didn't know this until a later episode.

A prequel is something set before another work that is made after it.

Toy Story is not a prequel to Toy Story 2. Toy Story 2 is a sequel to Toy Story. Toy Story is a predecessor to Toy Story 2.

Hence, the movie is not a prequel to those episodes, it's their predecessor.

Sorry for the pedantry, but I couldn't let it pass.

Really? Worst film you ever saw? Well, my next one will be better. Hello? Hello?

But it's not a prequel or a predecessor. I stated earlier that Kyle knows that Ike is Canadian in the movie yet he doesn't on the TV show for a few episodes into season one or even season two, I can't remember which season it was. And the fact that season 4 (if I remember correctly) continues on directly from the movie (Saddam being dead and in hell) pretty much assures that it's not a prequel/predecessor.

It's not to the series as a whole, it's a predecessor to the the episodes that aired after its release though.

They knew what the cuss words were. They had just never heard their favorite cartoon.. err... Canadian characters use that language and with that many descriptive variants. It hit them with more of an impact.

As they said in Mr. Mackie's office, they had heard Mr. Garrison using that language before already.
