Building the Better Betty
They DEFINITELY were thinking a lot better when they cast Betty in this movie. While I will agree that in some of the original cartoons Betty's head appears somewhat rounder than Wilma's, Betty had a tinier waist and to me, to the degree that I could find a cartoon character "attractive", Betty was definitely prettier than Wilma.
It's kind of interesting that the first movie Betty was all about the Bea Benadaret giggle, which was the only thing I'll give Rosie for getting right. The second movie Betty sounded a lot younger (she should, cause I think Krakowski IS younger), just like the second voice actress in the original series, Gerry Johnson, sounded younger.
I AM kind of shocked though, at how they blatantly disregarded a lot of "known" history that came from the original. Fred & Barney did NOT meet Betty & Wilma in the way that was shown in the film. F&B were hired as bellhops at a ritzy hotel while W&B were working as cigarette girls. They started flirting, and then all four were pretty righteously fired when they got caught dancing instead of working.
I am pretty sure that there was never anything signifying that Wilma cam from a rich family, certainly not to the level which she did in the film.
AND, it's a pity that they did such a wonderful casting job on Betty while completely forgetting that her maiden name was McBricker, not O'SHale.
