I came across this on youtube and they have done reviews for all seasons which are hilarious but also accurate too. They point out many things i'd never noticed on the show such as inconsistencies, plot holes, the endless speculation about what Leo can heal or not, the tonal shift of the show after season 5 and many other things. It is pretty entertaining to watch this even though the critic isn't much of a charmed fan but she does mention the good things about this show and doesn't trash it with negativity. The evil Phoebe and Piper voices she makes are the highlight of these reviews, i can't! Lmao First three seasons are uploaded on youtube the rest is on this website. http://phelous.com/category/obscurus-lupa/page/22/
I've also read those and put my reviews here but they're long gone. I also put them at a different site and here's what I wrote - DON'T READ IF YOU DON"T WANT TO BE SPOILED!
WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD!
WARNING! IF YOU LOVE CHARMED, YOU PROBABLY WON'T LIKE THIS OR THE REVIEWS!
Okay, you asked for it! Here's my reviews of her reviews.
Well, I FINALLY get to watch these! I'm at a local coffee shop with a laptop that finally works and headphones that finally work and said coffee shop has a connection strong enough that I can actually watch.
I'm in Season Two right now, trying hard not to chuckle, even as I enjoy the clips and her barbs. What I'm already sick of is the same two commercials at the stupidest times! Is that just me or is everyone else seeing these?
It's 5:30 now and the coffee shop closes at 8 - hope I get through all of them!
My favorite line that is just so very, very true: If Charmed has a good idea, they'll find a way to make it stupid. And stupid Es - most of them I never even realized! I actually went along with most of this during the first couple of seasons - I hope hearing all of this doesn't ruin the rest of my rewatches.
Of course, the best is when she tries to talk like one or points out something particularly illogical...
Done with Season Two and, naturally, was especially happy that she did indeed consider my favorite episode, "Morality Bites" as "gold in the midst of sh!t" and a glimpse of what it could've been like.
And here's Es often wishing it had never been part of the show because then them constantly forgetting that the wrong thing done for the right reason is still wrong (which she also brings up) wouldn't bugged me so much.
But what got me giggling the most was Neighbor Dan - oh, Neighbor Dan, why? Just like she mentions, I was one of those anti-Dan fans who just wanted Piper to end up with Leo, but now I wish Leo had never ended up with Piper...
Onto Season Three!
Finished Season Three and so far it's my favorite. She obviously enjoyed this season despite nitpicking it to death and I agreed with most of the nitpicks, especially the irony that Phoebe was the true evil in this season, not Cole - and that everyone who dies thanks to Cole in S4 & 5 is all Phoebe's fault. Hehehe!
I also love the idea that here we have the most dire circumstance of all - first Piper dying and then Prue - and yet no memory dust can be used and no other whitelighter can come in and save the day. Yes. The Elders are definitely dicks! And except when it comes to Prue, death means nothing!
Back to those dorky commercials! Why do they put them right in the middle of a sentence??? Who does this stuff and how can they possibly think this will make me want to buy their product???
Just finished Season Four and for the first time, the latest isn't my favorite. Rather than laughing at it, it just made me mad, remembering why I hate that season so much - the way they totally screwed up my once-favorite character Phoebs and turned her into Freebie/PhoeME so I really was wondering why SHE wasn't the one who was vanquished rather than Cole! She's SOOOO much more self-centered and evil than he is! And for me, that - making someone who would've made such a fantastically wonderful villain into the hero of the show, while making one of the stars (Phoebe) into the show's worst villain - is absolutely the show's worst mistake!
I'm with Lupa - Shannen Doherty might not have done it willingly, but she most certainly got out at the right time. This show *SO* should've ended at the end of Season Three with all three dying and staying dead - even if what was wrong with Season Four was NOT Paige or Rose McGowan!
I’m home now. I had to stop after Part One of Season Five because my coffee shop closed, but I'll definitely be back tomorrow to try to finish it up. Have to tell both you guys thank you - you were definitely right; these are great!
I like how Lupa puts the blame where it truly belongs - on the Demon of Inconsistency - Brad Kern!
And I thoroughly enjoyed the "Leo Abuse Montage" - no doubt once Piper had guilted him out after she blamed him for Prue's death, he became pretty much useless.
Oh, man, I'm back at my favorite coffee shop, have just watched Season Five and - oh, did Phoebe get her comeuppance!!! And so did Piper - the hole she sent the Titans down is just like the dark part in her chest that used to be her heart - OH, YES!!! The heart of the family is no more....
The whole "Cole is evil just because he's half-demon" reminds me how much I wish half-breeds weren't part of this show - then anyone can be what they are - BOTH evil or good, not because of their genetics but because of their own motivations...I mean, sincerely - what's the Charmed Ones' excuse??? They can do everything Cole does but what they do is all good and wonderful just because they're not half-demon???
Oh, I do hate S4-8, Charmed's alternate universe spin-off!!! Oh, I wish "All Hell Breaks Loose" was the end - even if I do love Paige...
Onward to Season Six. With how much I hate that season, this should be fun...
Didn't think I'd say this, but I'm getting extremely bored. Yeah, it's the Phoebe routine and the Cole routine - I'm getting sick and tired of both. Knocking Phoebe isn't even funny anymore.
That's what this show has become???
I do know one thing - Paige is becoming more and more my favorite character of the second set - as Lupis puts it, she's so much what Phoebe should've been - I can see my Phoebs turning into her if only Cole had never been part of her life - and Lupis would be a lot less boring without him...
Cole is the worst part of this series - no doubt about it.
Darn! Just when it was getting fun, talking about the mess that is what turned Wyatt evil, my time is up for the day.
Still got to do Part 7 of Season 6 and, of course, Season 7 and Season 8.
The funny thing is, I'm no longer sure I want to watch...it's reminding me too much of when I rewatched "Sleuthing with the Enemy" and knew I couldn't rewatch Charmed anymore.
At any rate, in the long run, it's been a lot of fun, so thanks, guys.
Well, the other members talked me into continuing and this is my final review.
Well, I finished the reviews and I've discovered I like the shorter reviews much more than the long ones - like Charmed itself, the long ones repeat the same things over and over and I get the feeling that Lupa likes those seasons just about as much as I do...which isn't much. Some of it I laughed at, a lot I was bored by. By far my favorite of the last bunch was the part on Forever Charmed, just because she said the same things I've been saying since that horrible mess first aired.
No doubt her reviews have made me like Billie more, hate the sisters more, and wish that Cole had never been part of it more. Not that I think that him not being part of it would've made Phoebe a more likable character (Alyssa took care of that the way Holly took care of Piper....if indeed Lupa is right and Alyssa and Holly *weren't* just producers in name only...but it sure would explain how they constantly tried to make their faults seem like good things or that they'd earned being that way after all they had done....), but then I wouldn't have had to be reminded of it over and over and over and over and over and over and....well, you get the message...
No, my favorite part was that final montage to "How Soon is Now?" Can anyone download that and put it on youtube? Then I could watch it at home. I particularly liked the fact that in that one Season Eight is totally ignored - oh, I wish that was the truth!
That montage, if you just want to watch that starts at 12:33 in Part 9 of Season 8. reply share
The whole thing isn't on Youtube (I wish it was) - just the first three seasons. But since I didn't really like them after that, I'm glad it stopped there.
I think the other link is actually the one that goes to her web page.
I watch these for entertainment, so funny and accurate. I like how she admits the show is guilty pleasure and she would rewatch some episodes. The show is fine if you don't think about it or connect the seasons (in some instances, the episodes in one season as well).
This show is a hot mess full of inconsistencies and character assassinations, but it can be very fun at times - whether I'm laughing at it or with it.
