The demons looking more human in later seasons...

It's been brought up more than once that the demons started being near exclusively human in the later seasons of the show. That's actually not true. Even going all the way back to Season 1, the demons have primarily been human-looking.

Don't believe me? Here's a compilation I found of all the demon vanquishings during Season 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQMUf51aKDo

So can we put this argument to rest once and for all?

If you are reading this, you have just lost The Game.

No, you can't, because most of those were warlocks, who were supposed to be witches who had done evil and were therefore human. The only demons in Season One was the Demon of Fear (he didn't become Barbas until Season Two), the Demon of Illusion and Tempus, the Demon of Time. That's just three.

But I'll admit that all three *were* human. Weird that some of the warlocks (Jeremy; the neighbors, the warlocks from hell) looked more demonic than the demons.

I do wish the demons had remained nameless, like the angels, so that warlocks would've remained the main adversary - Cole truly should've been a warlock, not a demon, with just the Source as a demon in S3-8, not counting the ones from S1.

And they all looked human. My point still stands.

Well, I've never complained about them looking human - they were played by humans and anyone who didn't look human looked fakey - the special effects left plenty to be desired.

What I complain about (constantly) is the fact that rather than The Demon of...they all turn into leather-wearing men who throw fireballs and shimmer.

YAWN!!!!!

Those were the only demons Kern could dream up.

Ya. And I agree. The first 3 seasons were when the demons were actually scary like Barbas - The demon of Fear, The Source, original Triad, Tempus, Litvack, Raynor, Vornacc and even belthazar to name a few. These were the demons I liked that charmed came up with, and I'm sure they werent Kern's ideas. kern weakened the Source, Barbas, the triad and even Cole by getting rid of his demon half. Their believability and fear factor after kern took control of those characters disappeared.

Remember when they used to talk about the Upper level demons and them being members of scary demonic groups like The Ordo Malorum that Bane worked for and The Brotherhood of the Thorn. That's when demons were scary and they actually scared the charmed ones on some level. Somewhere starting midway through season 4 after Cole got stripped of his demonic powers and the Source showing his face everything started going soft and downhill on the show. Then season 5 on turns into storybook. Though a storybrook like theme wouldn't have been so bad if they had had someone like the evil queen on charmed. I'd give anything to see Regina and piper go at it in a battle or see the girls end up stuck in storybrook

Ordo Malorum

Commanding the demonic legions,
these generals lead the war
against the forces of good.

To ascend in the unholy hierarchy,
they must capture and conquer
those witches who protect
the innocent and value good.

The servants of these generals
(also known as Level Two Demons)
can be identified by the weapons
which they carry.

The majority of demons throughout the show were just dudes wearing black. This isn't ''Buffy'' were nearly all demons involved some prosthetic makeup.

Yeah, that got on my nerves. Being a demon was suppose to be a HUGE thing. While warlocks were equal to witches, demons were suppose to be something greater and scarier. While warlocks felt like threats, we could easily believe the Charmed Ones could stop them if they could figure out the plot quick enough. Meanwhile, when a demons show, we're a bit more fearful.

Its why in the earlier Seasons, the Charmed Ones face more warlocks than demons. The sister were greatly powerful but lacked so much experience. Meanwhile, the average warlock wasn't as strong as any of them but held so much more experience. Warlocks could get the upper hand on the naive Charmed Ones. But, if the Charmed Ones could figure out the game quick enough, they'd be okay. But, for demons, figuring out the plan wasn't enough. Demons were just as strong so it felt like a fight to win AND survive.

In Seasons 1 and 2, we'd get demons who looked human and then those who looked nothing like. But, that changed in season 3. I get why Season 3 gave us so many human-looking demons though. They were technically half-demons. But, I feel THIS was the start of the loss of unique demons and the rise of "Just put 'em in leather and have 'em throw an energy ball or somethin'." Seriously, remember when energy balls and shimmering were rare? Cole and his group were suppose to be rare, powerful and with exclusive powers. But, it's like the show said "Y'know, this is WAY easier to do!! Just make 'em ALL like that!! Only with LESS depth too!!"

Eventually, all we get is very obvious "Look at me!! I'm evil 'cause I'm wearing leather" demons. Their mannerisms were no longer eerie or foreboding. Rather, all we got was "GRR!!! I want to kill EVERYTHING without finesse!! No planning!! Just shimmer in and throw and energy ball!! And, I better make it quick too!! I need Piper to blow me up so we can get back to her hating Leo and Phoebe trying to find love with her crotch!! GRRR!!!!!"

Agreed totally.

It would've worked out so much better if these lower-level demons were warlocks who didn't live in the Underworld and left the Underworld to the truly terrifying demons. After Season Two, the only ones who should've been demons were the Source and Zankou. Cole should've been a warlock, raised by his warlockian mother to be evil, and given a demonic alter-ego by the Source. Then his redemption would've made a lot more sense, while being totally different than Brendan in Season One who had decided to be good long before he met Prue.

As soon as you had a half-demon, being a demon was no longer scary.
