Your favorite Charmed era?

Charmed can be broken up in a few distinct eras. Many fans simply break it up into the Prue vs Paige years, but I believe it to be more complex than that.

Seasons 1-2: The episodes this era are episodic and there are no season arcs. Instead this era is about the Halliwell family heritage, dating, sisterhood, innocents, and the supernatural. The take on innocents is unique to the series as saving innocents is the pretty much the major plot point.

Seasons 3-4: The series attempts darker and more complex seasonal arcs here. While sisterhood and innocents still play a role, there's no doubt that the biggest role of all is the Phoebe and Cole saga. This also marks the end of the Prue years, but the themes are still common in season 4 despite her absence that it is a pretty streamlined era.

Seasons 5-7: This is the new generation of Charmed. This era is campy like never before with fairy tales, many costume changes, and baby hijinks! This era becomes mostly about the next generation as Piper and Leo's kids take center stage. It's a completely different era, trading in the gothic undertones for a fantasy magical community.

Season 8: The show is a parody, but not as fun as the previous era. Innocents, sisterhood, heritage and all the original themes are no longer present. It's a pretty sad era as you watch former heroes dread the idea of saving another person to pursue a normal life. The narrative of this season is unintentionally depressing.

So which is your favorite? Or would you break them down differently?

I love everything about seasons 1 and 4 and I have special place for season 6. Those are my favourites and I like them because they are very different and present many vital aspects of all charcters. I think that season 1 is actually the darkest out of all.
I like seasons 5 and 7 equally but I think that season 7 is better.
I don't enjoy seasons 2 and 8. And I am indifferent when it comes to season 3.

I'd agree with these, except I still split S3 and S4, not due to Prue vs Paige but due to letting having a whitelighter for a father be more important than having a Warren for a mother, I'll never accept S4-8 as anything but an alternate-universe spin-off of Charmed.

My favorite period is actually part of your Season 1-2: From '1.07: The Fourth Sister' to '2.16: Murphy's Luck'. Yeah, it includes some episodes that I don't like and excludes others that I do like, but it's the only time period when I like all three sisters - didn't like Prue before it and didn't like Piper after it. By the time I did like Piper again, I hated PhoeME and never liked her again, while also ending up hating Piper even as I loved Holly's acting. Paige was very simply annoying because McGowan's acting was.

Isn't that a season 5 thing though? Piper and Leo just discussed wanting children and discovered she was pregnant in the very last scene of season 4. It wasn't until late season 5 and then season 6 that the "twice blessed" and Wyatt becoming a great evil was even mentioned.

Seasons 1-2. The monster of the week format worked best.

1-4. I enjoyed the monsters of the week and dark episodes. It was when they felt like true sister's instead of roommates
