Power categories???

How would you devise the powers that appear in the series?

Piper for example, I would put into the "molecular manipulation" category. Her ability to affect molecules is self explanatory, but would powers like invisibility fall into this category?

Then there's Phoebe, who we are told is in the "Mentals", her premonition could be classed as mental as could her empathy, but levitation is not a mental power (despite what remus said!) So where would that power fit in.... "Physical" maybe?
Prue's astral projection and TK are defiantly "mental".

Where would Paige's powers slot in? Her TK orbing is like Prue's so would be "mental", but orbing is "Teleportation/transportation".

Super Strength would be a "physical" power.

Then there's lightning throwing and fire control. Would these be "Elementals"?

How are powers allocated? How many groups would there be?

I only really remember powers being classed by the race or being that uses them. For example, when Phoebe gets the fire throwing power in season 4, Leo says it's an upper level demon power.

Also orbing and healing seem to be exclusive whitelighter powers. Witches have powers but their powers don't seem to be exclusive to them. Warlock's steal witches powers but also have their own unique power with blinking. I think only witches can scry and make potions, but TBh it's hard to keep track of al the inconsistencies across the series, lol.

Except blinking isn't exclusive to warlocks. According to Melinda Warren in 'The Witch is Back', it was a witch's power and Matthew Tate stole it.

It's the usual problem with trying to do anything like this with Charmed - inconsistency, your name is Charmed.

Maybe it was a power for good witches, but then got stolen by warlocks and passed on through future generations, but not for witches as the one/ones with the blinking powers were killed by warlocks. But then that would be the same for a lot of other powers I guess

Exactly true, but this makes sense. Good job!

In season 1, Phoebe described the three essentials of magic:

Timing (Piper)
Feeling (Phoebe)
Phases of the Moon (Prue)

So I'd like to think in some way, if these are the "essentials" of magic, then witches powers would fall into these categories.

Since Phases of the Moon describes constant movement, Paige's orbing and teleorbing would be in that category.

I wish they'd stuck with those...
