Finished watching for the first time.

So I just finished watching this last night on Netflix and I got all the feels so I'm gonna share my two cents on this show, what I liked/didn't, ultimate favorite sister and would love to hear your take on it too.

So, I quite liked this show. I realise it's not the best show ever, in fact, though it certainly had good moments/storylines throughout, this is a show that wasn't ever really great, but that was always good. Let me elaborate. Before watching this, I had gone thru both Buffy and Angel. Since wrapping those two up (which have become some of my all-time favorite shows) I wanted to watch something that -again- dealth with supernatural elements, and I remembered this show, that I'd watched occasionally back when it first aired and that I enjoyed a lot as a kid (I was 10 or so when watching those few eps). So I started watching it on Netflix and it didn't take long to discover this was no Buffy or Angel, as I think those two shows are far superior than this in practically every aspect, but nevertheless I was still drawn to it for its own merits and ended up watching it all.

There are several things that worked on this show, maybe the main one for me was that I had never seen a show that depicted sisterhood or that had it at its core. I have only one sister, so I was totally new to the whole three-sister dynamic so watching that on this show was great. How the sisters interacted felt so real, and endearing and just fun to watch. The show seemed to mature and find its way pretty fast. It has this distinct soap-opera feel, with supernatural stuff happening in the mix, that became so familiar through-out the seasons. Its narrative worked and it really felt I knew these characters left and right as the show wrapped. The dialogue was another highlight of the show, often brilliant, capturing the rivalry and support amongst the sisters in a witty manner. I loved their back-and-forth bickering and teasing, if I had to choose one thing from the show I liked it would be that for sure.

Now, as for me saying who my favorite sister is. Though Prue was my favorite in the beginning cuz she was just so badass and confident and focused, the one that ended up being my ultimate favorite is Piper. I love how she transitioned from shy, nerdy and awkard in the earlier seasons to the commanding, tough, sure-of-herself witch she was when the show ended. And it made perfect sense, too. After Prue died, Piper struggled to find herself as the new older sister for she'd always depended on Prue, but now that she was gone she had to rise to the plate, and eventually she did. I also consider Piper to be the funniest. Albeit, they all have funny quirks, Phoebe is possibly the most typically-funny one, what with her physical comedy and playful manner, but Piper was often unintentionally funny. She had such a dry and sarcastic way of delivering her lines that worked for the character really well. She was so quippy, especially in the last seasons.

So there you have it. Charmed, though far from my favorite, did snatch a soft spot in my heart after all. I guess this was kind of my review of the show. Do you agree with what I've posted? Who's your favorite sister? I'd love to hear from some fans of this show.

Paige. Liked the show up until season five after that it seemed too rely too much on relationships and the creative elements I loved left the show.

I definitely agree that the show has faults, although for me they don't detract enough to keep me from enjoying it. The sisterly aspect of the show was one of my favorite elements too. The original three really had a tight bond no matter what, and it's that element that keeps me watching the show again and again more than anything.

I have to disagree about liking Piper the best by the series' end, however. I liked how she became more confident and sure of herself from what we saw in season 1, but in my opinion, she went too far to the other end by season 8. I thought she was rude, impatient, and she never seemed happy, at least not for long.

Since I didn't like much about the second half of the show, it's hard to pick a favorite sister by the end of season 8. I liked Phoebe for her free spirit in the first two seasons, Piper for her sweetness and heart early on, Prue for her dry humor and her faults that we saw beginning to really catch up to her in season 3, and Paige for the fresh feeling she brought to season 4.
