Intro on Netflix is different

The theme song or intro. It's switched from the generic music to How Soon is Now in the 2nd or 3rd season but on Netflix, no season has the How Soon is Now? intro song. Every season has the generic intro music from season one. Anyone else notice this? Why would they do this? Song licensing issue? Would Netflix have to pay something like that even though the producers paid when the song was first used by the show? I'm just kind of curious.

It's not just the intro, virtually every song (except the live performances) has been changed on Netflix. My guess is that their rights to use the music expired after about a decade. I don't know. It seems they've replaced all the well known mainstream 90s tunes with uncopyrighted indie and studio produced music.

I think they've had issues with the rights of the song.

Licensing. The rights for the song ran out and back in '98 when they purchased them things like streaming wouldn't have been taken into account.

As far as I remember, the How Soon is Now track was used right from the very beginning through to the end of season 8 for the broadcast of the show. The only things to lose that were the season 8 DVDs and the netflix streams.

Thanks everyone. I figured it had to be licensing. Although I didn't know it would run out and have to be renewed for streaming. I swear I remember that generic music intro in season one, even if it was only for the first few episodes. I also hadn't noticed that the music in the shows had been replaced too.

I bought all the seasons on dvd when they first came out and watch the original airings on tv. It has always been How soon is now until season 8 was released on dvd and later on Netflix. Didn't have rights to the song and had to change to that alternative rock melody :/ takes away much of the CHARM of the show for me. Its the only long opening credit I like
