mini-series or tv show?

Was this a true mini-series that ended production prematurely? If so, there must be a script somewhere telling us what happened... Or was it a continuing story TV show, sort of like Dynasty, Lost or Desperate Housewives that got cancelled?

reply

Well I thought it was a TV show, as there were 10 episodes and there was supposed to be a second season filmed but it got cancelled. It would be very interesting to know what the writers intended to happen in the next season. It's too bad there weren't any special features put on the DVD release- they could have summed it up for us!

That would have been nice. After I watched Ep 10, I sat there thinking about what stories were somewhat resolved and those less so. I actually looked again at the box to make sure that there wasn't more. (I had to get this as an interlibrary loan so it was repackaged) Oh well.....

Same here!
I could not believe the end was the end.
But it is not the first series, movie or TV show that leave the loose strings for you to tie up as you like.

A second series was never commissioned by the BBC. Series 1 coincided with the football world cup, so the scheduling was a mess and (in the days before Sky Plus/Series Link!) no one knew when to expect the next episode; this meant that too few viewers were watching it towards the end.

Such a shame.

I'd love to see a second series made, set 13 years on during the Great War, with baby Billy/Charles a teenager going off to Eton, Bertie and Tom young officers at the Front, Randall a nanny to the St John child who was probably fathered by the Major (who in turn has turned out to be predictably cruel to Isabel).

reply

Yes love your Idea for a second series.
