It should have been Academy Award nominated.

To answer of the comment of Author: Tom Black ([email protected]) from Austintown, Ohio where he says it may awaken some feeling of nostalgia for a time around the 40s.
Well I am sixteen and I feel the nostalgia despite that I havent live in these times. I think this effect is reached because of the great Art Direction and Costume Design. In my opinion it should have been enlisted in the Academy Award nominations. It really deserves to be nominated for Art Direction and Costume Design.
What do you think?

Perhaps - except you (or Mr Black) has the wrong time frame. It is set before the FIRST world war, not the second. It's only about 1912 not 1940.

I have not read Mr. Black’s post (not in this thread) but this may only be a matter of confusion, not error. The original George Archer-Shee trial occurred in 1908, Rattigan moved the action closer to the First World War (1910) in his play, which was written in 1946, and produced for the first time on film in 1948, starring Robert Donat.

It's been on the Starz channel(s) over the past couple weeks and I'm watching it right now.

A newspaper shown approximately 30 minutes into the movie shows a date of 1911.

I definitely think it should should've earned some kind of Oscar nomination but it just shows that the Oscars are in dire need of a 'makeover' as I've stated on other threads.

Hope that helps!
