a must-see for Dead Alive fans

Several of the best scenes & characters in Dead Alive/Braindead are taken from the Video Dead, or are at least some kind of tribute to the Video Dead.

Watch both movies back to back, and you'll see what I mean. The similarities are pretty astounding. Even the tone and the zombies' behavior ...

Dang it, I want to know what the connection between the films really was.

So, anyone have Peter Jackson's email address?

reply

This film should definatley receive a proper 2005/2006 remastered DVD release with notable extra's.

Anyone agree?

reply

Yes.

reply

Nah the film needs a proper 2006 remake since that's all Hollywood is doing these days. lol :P

reply

No.

This film must be destroyed.

reply

Come on, just think if it was remade. Now THAT would have to be destroyed.

reply

I believe it should get a proper DVD release but noone seems to know who has the rights to it these days... I KNOW that an updated remake would be KILLER... it definately needs that... especially with these famous movies that show the same things as TVD like Thr Ring, with "Samara" coming out the T.V. and Like someone said about Dead Alive... so, it deserves a remake!!!!

reply

Agree, and it's nice to see a little traffic on this board finally.

I hope Blue Underground gets the rights to it. They did a good job with another zombie film with a small cult following.."Shock Waves". Picture was grainy but it has plentiful extras.

You got your pint, you got your pig snacks, what more do you want?

Hard to compare this to Shock Waves. That is a great little-known zombie film. This is a little-known laughable film. I normally don't enjoy this type of terrible film (so-bad-it's-good) but I did get some minor enjoyment. I love how people defend this film - "It's supposed to be that way. You just don't get it!". Actually, I do get that much of the film is supposed to be funny. The fact of the matter is that it isn't actually humorous on it's own grounds...it's laughably bad. A friend made me a copy of the tape he owns and I will keep it for some enjoyment at a much later time. I could easily watch a film like Shock Waves often. This film, while not painfully bad, is still bad. Anyway, there will probably never be a character as great as "Jeff". Oh, poor Rocky Duvall. Why did your career end here? IMDB really needs more of his lines in the memorable quotes section. Some of them are truly classic examples of great dialogue. As for a connection to Braindead / Dead Alive...sure, it's possible... but there are thousands of zombie films out there! I doubt Peter Jackson singled this film out as a major inspiration for some of his characters. Also, how is this a must for Dead Alive fans?! That film is an intelligent, hilarious zombie comedy classic. This is, well, The Video Dead.

Dead ALive. inteligent? hilarious? classic?
nahhhhh
Video Dead. ok time filler. still want a proper dvd release of it tho have fond memory's and the german disc sucks

EXCUSE ME THIS MOVIE HAS CULT STATUS

reply

Wow, that's really sad. Look again, sheesh.

reply

I saw it. No similarities. Both are zombie movies, that's about it. I doubt Peter Jackson ever saw this movie, before he made Dead Alive or after.

reply

Totally agree. If anything this movie would be good to see with Dead Next Door. Both are low budget, ridiculous zombie flicks.

Bump..... for DVD/Blu-ray release!

reply

No, not really, can't see it, other than maybe that one scene with the zombies being sat down for a meal.
