Questions

SO I watched this movie for the first time today, and ended up watching it two more times afterwords. When I first saw Memento years ago, I became obsessed with it until I found an answer I was comfortable with. Same with Inception. But I haven't seen a decent explanation of this movie.

To me, it seems like there's more to the story then what's straightforward. The main thing that bugs me is everyone thinks Cobb is a hitman. I don't believe this at all. As I said I watched it three times today and that was never even implied. I think he was just a sociopathic genius who wanted to commit a perfect murder. If he were a hitman, he wouldn't have walked out Usual Suspects style off into the crowd, he would've met up with whoever hired him to do the job. One question this raises is if the old lady murder was real. I personally don't believe it was, it was made up to fool both the blonde and "Bill".

Now, my questions.

What's the significance of the bald man? Was the man he killed someone Cobb knew, making the whole thing a revenge tale?

What is he called Bill, but not credited as such? It clearly isn't a Fight Club-esque movie.

What am I missing? It feels like there's something I'm not getting. I mean I get everything they threw at me, but I still feel like there's more.

Personally, I don't see a need to look for any explanations other than those that the film provides. I don't see the film even suggesting that the questions are not answered...

I don't see him as a professional hitman, but more a henchman that the Bald guy asked to take care of the blonde in a particular way just as Cobb indicated. In some sense I think he wants "to commit the perfect murder" and the fact that he is choosing to kill someone for hire makes him a "sociopath", but I see not reason not to accept the motivation the film offers and that's Cobb's actions came from the bald guy. As Cobb tells the blonde right before he kills her: "The old man was very specific about how I should do things." "he is letting me keep all the money from his safe." "He says your demands have become too unreasonable. You've become too greedy in your blackmail. He said something about you being a witness to an incident that happened in this very room. He was very precise about exactly how and where I should take care of things. Something about a bloodstained carpet that you've got stashed away to back up your story, should it ever be told."

And the policeman supports that this conclusion: "You see, we don't actually have any unsolved murders of old ladies at the present." "There's no such ongoing investigation. And we don't know this Mr. Cobb of yours."

Based on wha thte film indicates, he seemed to the be the boss, the blonde was his lover. The bald guy killed someone in her apartment, but they left a bloody carpet. The blonde took and hit the bloddy carpet, and started blackmailing the bald guy. He paid for a while, but she got greedy, and the bald guy decided to get rid of her in a way that was not connected to her and in a way that if the carpet was found and investigated, that suspicion would fall on someone else...

He also said: "My name's Daniel Lloyd. My friends call me Danny." When he says his name is "Bill", Cobb seems to suggest/hint that he knows this is not his name, but goes along with it (just like he goes along with pretending to not know that the 2nd break-in was at the young man's flat). Thus, like the blonde, the policeman, the bald guy, etc, the young man does not have a name given in the film.

I am not sure what you are missing. For me, the film is complete as it is. As it is presented, we are given an explanation that answers the questions posed in the film. I see no reason to make speculates outside the film...

Somehow, I totally missed the hints you speak of, and Cobb talking about the bald man as he did. But that conversation pretty much answers most of my questions. Thank you sir.
