Better debut: Following or Pi?

They both came out in 1998. They are both in black and white. They are both the feature film debuts of two of the most talented filmmakers working today. Which first film do you prefer?

I like Following better, giving it an 8, than Pi, which I gave a 7. This may be because I prefer Christopher Nolan slightly more than Darren Aronofsky. However, I think Following succeeds on multiple levels considering he was on such a miniscule budget (it was made on $6,000, Pi was made on $60,000), compared to the stunning Pi, which has somewhat of a jumbled screenplay.

I kinds hated pi becoz i found it very hard to sit through.though,i liked the concept..i was never a big fan of aronofsky.
btw i loved 'following'.it wasnt a flawless one but i still liked the non linear narrative ,the plot twists and the way it is shot.and especially the ending.
Following 9/10
Pi 5/10

Following, because it is more impressive narrative, although I like Aronofsky better as a whole.

Pi, actually. Though I like both directors almost equally.

Second hand impressions..

Following, and I also happen to like Nolan's work a lot more than Aronofsky's.

Pi - much better film for my own tastes.

I'm with fortean2, Pi is personally more appealing (but Following was great).

It is a matter of taste. I like em both and admire how they were put together for little money. What's a shame is LionsGAte isn't interested in releasing Pi on BluRay. Thankfully Criterion is releasing Following.

Two of my favourite directors.

I will go with Pi, because I think it's a really amazing movie. I find the idea quite genius, and love the surreal feeling.

Forget budgets and all that stuff, both Following and Pi are excellent.

I think Nolan is a much better director than Aronofsky, but I definitely prefer Pi over Following. I have always seen Following as Nolan's worst film.
