After rewatching the show, I noticed a lot of things

The whole point of the show (look it up on Wikipedia) was so that kids who get bullied or pushed around in real life, had something to relate to. Catdog was different, and faced a lot of prejudice, and it wasn't done to promote prejudice but to show kids that they could make it through life even though bad crap happens to you.

Catdog was a visual metaphor that they were "getting it at both ends." They have yin & yang personalities that balance each other out so one doesn't get too evil or too saintly. Catdog was also supposed to visually represent what it's like to have to share a bedroom with a sibling, and being "too close for comfort" and not having any privacy or alone-time. All this was done to send kids the message that it's OK, you will be OK no matter how many people stand in your way, make fun of you, or try to bring you down. It's a good message, which is why I can't conceive of why people would hate this show; dislike or not care for it, maybe, but hate? Hatred is a pretty strong emotion, and is driven by anger. Why anyone would HATE a kid's cartoon and take personal offense from it instead of just ignoring it, I cannot understand at all.

I don't think you were supposed to like Rancid or the Greasers. LOL. Shriek hates him because he's a cat, but maybe she's such a bitch because people keep thinking she's a boy.
