John Grady Cole is 16. Matt Damon played him when he was 30. I understand that Hollywood uses older actors to play younger roles, but 30 playing 16 does not work! Why not get Sir Richard Harris to play 16 year old John Grady Cole? If they wanted a more mature actor I'm sure they could have found someone that was 18-20 that can pass for 16. A 30 year old grown man playing John Grady Cole really takes away from this coming of age story.

sharematt was atually 28-29 yrs old in this. but same difference. i still thought he could pass 4 someone in high school/college. and brad pitt was gonna play matt's part but he turned it down. brad wouldve been about 36 in this if he wouldve taken it. did u maybe consider the charcter maybe more in his early 20s?

I watched it now and I think Matt Damon looked pretty young. I would never guess he was nearly 30.
It’s just so sad that the variety of the world should be used as a contentious issue.
