Gabriel Byrne's performance as Satan reminded me...

Even his dialogue was reminiscent of the earlier film.

I agree. I thought that too.
Gabriel Byrne was much better looking than even the handsome Al Pacino though.
"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."
Byrne may have been handsomer, but Al's performance was at least as good... and possibly (gasp!) even better. On the other hand, he also had a better screenplay to work from.
