I love Angelina for this role, and I think that she did a pretty good job, but I was wondering if anyone out there thought that there would have been a better choice to play Lara if Angelina had been unavailable.
You are my sunshine... and now I have skin cancer.
Keira would be all wrong for the role. She's too dainty and frail looking, perhaps if she ate something, anything, and bulked up, but even then she would be all wrong. Bottom line though, Angelina IS Lara Croft, born to play the role, and my second choice would be Hilary.
Rhona Mitra should have done it. She was the model for the character and is British. She is young enough, and by watching the Practice she showed that she could act.
I'm so good I don't need a signature. Wait a tick....
have any of you even played the game? none of the people you mentioned even look like the lara. when i heard Angelina was gonna play her i thought "perfect". in the first movie she looked so much like her the lips the booobs the body i don't think she was too manish. i did hate the part after she got out of the shower when she wouldn't wear a dress (lara doesn't hate to waer dresses cause they are girly she judt likes pants better). now the first movie stayed most true to the game. on that note Angelina was the best is the beast and alwaqys will be the best for the role.
i agree Denise Richards would of been sexy yet she looks like she could kick arse. Alot of the sugestions would look good ! but they need the guts ! which half of them wouldnt have.
100% with you. rhona has that confidence (almost arrogance) of a confident woman, angelina (although very good in these movies, i have no problem with the casting) seems more like her upper lip is curled in contempt than pure confidence, a complexed teen-angst thing going on.. anyway whatever, they're making a 3rd one now, bit late to be complaining hehe
Mitra looks a little like Lara. Yes I've played the game and Jolie doesn't look at all like Lara. It's not her fault the movie was so bad though. The director never played the game.
YES! Rhona Mitra but Jane March moreso. But Rhona Mitra would add a new twist, there's no way that Lara's dad wouldn't have gone for an Indian woman, Lara's mom. Jane is half Vietnamese
Eva Green is at the top of my list. But there are so many other actresses out there that would be just as good. Rose Byrne, Sophia Myles, Olga Kurlenko, Rosamund Pike, Kelly Macdonald....
Rhona Mitra... Her lips aren't quite perfect for Lara, but everything else is in place. They may have to pad her chest up if they want that classic Lara figure, but that's about it.
As for her acting, I *might* have agreed with you, once upon a time... She doesn't look lik she'll be a good actress, but was surprisingly good in Doomsday and would have been awesome, if Kate Beckinsale hadn't recently capitalised on the outfit/moves/attitude/general character they had her playing in this. She'd have been even better if she wasn't dragged back by some pretty naff acting from her co-stars!!
However, I've just been watching her in Strike Back (TV serialisation based on Chris Ryan's books) where she plays the CO of a Brit intelligence operations unit... and OH MY GOD, she is good in that!! There's a number of scenes where she cracks out a pistol or two, occasionally a rifle and every inch of her just SCREAMS Lara Croft!! However, she's very much an adult Lara. About 35 years old, more wisdom, more sound judgement, more cunning wit. Lara Croft in the games is what, 25-30 and geared toward accomodating a mid-teen audience. Rhona's Lara is far more the "Mess with me? *beep* you" Bangbangbangbang sort.
The old Lara was in her thirties, but they've rebooted her as an early-twenties girl in the latest game, so expect a young CW-type actress to play her if they ever make another movie.
There is a man...he travels fast...he has purpose...he brings violence and destruction.
At the time I (and others)thought that Julia Ormond would have been perfect for the role. Along with Lucy Lawless --although she is on the big side. I'm in the process of re-watching the film and I thought that the script was just bad. It's as if they just threw everything at the wall to see if it would stick. I also thought that Jolie was over the top, and the anti-thesis of the British aristocrat who doesn't believe in showing off.
For the reboot I am all for Gemma Atterton or Michelle Dockery in the role. Although they are too old for the current rebooted Lara. Emily Blunt would also be perfect, but I suspect that she too would be considered a tad too old now for the role.
I love Angelina Jolie but Jane March was always Lara, the voice, the demeanor, the experience while very young in South East Asia, Lara croft all the way. Too bad it is too late.
