The plot is bad, the script is awful, the acting is shameful and the dialogue is horrendous. I love this movie. It's a guilty pleasure of mine. Everytime I watch it, I hate myself for putting up with such crap, but I can't help it. Sometimes you just need pure fluff.

Not all the acting was bad. SMG ruled and plus she looked beautiful! I love it too! PLus I love the music.

I agree, SMG was great. And she really did look beautiful. Todd Oldham did an amazing job. SMG is the only person i know that can pull off the blonde, brunette and red hair.

The acting was not great, but it was solid all around. The script had major plotholes, but overall I enjoyed this movie. I'm watching it right now on cinemax. I think it just a fluffy, feel good movie to be enjoyed and not analyzed. I do agree SMG never looked better than in this film.

I know right. lol. But throughout the movie all I was thinking was that I want one of those caramel eclair thingies! Damnit.

And in the scene when she was told that even Dumbo flew without his feather, we discovered she'd brought the crab with her!
I think the relationship with the crab was underdeveloped myself.

Agree. It's the most corny movie ever...but I love it! It's kinda like a animated disney movie brought to life into a modern romantic comedy.
Though like the original Willy Wonka, it's not fun to watch when hungry and stranded in a dorm room with no food around.

I actually used this line on the phone with stores to try and find this movie, "It is this horrible movie that I love from the late '90's with Sarah Michelle Geller, a magic crab, and vanilla foggy stuff....called "Simply Irresistible. Do you have it?" I could just watch this movie forever and find more and more reasons to hate to love it.

I thought the acting was not bad. Other than that, I agree with OP. For some reason, it's entertaining, even if the script is bad, and in some parts is worse than a cheesy sitcom.
I caught it on TV and thought it was stupid fun, and bought it when I found it for $4.
Great lazy Saturday movie when you don't want to think.

Agreed. But, I found Sarah Michelle Gellar's acting lazy and wooden. It was obvious she didn't want to be on the set. Sadly, this film hurt her movie career.
