pronouncing...

does anybody know how to pronounce the father/brother's name malachy? Is it sounded like mal-uh-keye, like malachai from "children of the corn"? It's been awhile since I've seen the movie. Thanks!

reply

Yup - Ma-LA-key.

the called the son "mal-uh-kye" and the husband "mal-uh-key" or the other way around, i know pretty much everything about the book, its my favorite, my mom actually bought me another book because mine was so worn out.

reply

Actually, I think both Malachy Sr and Malachy Jr's names are pronounced the same: MAL-ah-key.

There is no dark side of the moon, really. Matter of fact, it's all dark.

uh no, ive read the frank mccourts (the author) interviews and he clearly states that they had different pronunciations.

reply

Oh, I didn't know that. They were always spelt the same, so I always assumed that they were pronounced the same. Thanks for clearing that up. :)

I've always loved the name Malachy, It's my dad and my little brother's middle name!

It made me laugh how you brought up Malachai from COTC by the way!!

Uh no, I just listened to the book on CD, as read by Frank McCourt himself, and he definitely pronounces both names as Mal-a-KEY.

reply

Where does he state that? Prove it. I am listening to the audio book read by Frank McCourt himself and he pronounces both names "Mal - a - KEY".
