That may be true.
But . . . if someone wrote a bestseller that featured a time in my life when I was oblivious to the suffering going on around me, I wouldn't be so quick to jump on the bandwagon, either.
Just a thought.
I went to college in Limerick and except for one or two spots I've always thought of it as a bit of a dump. As for back then my Grandmother said that whatever about his own personal circumstances (which she questioned) Limerick as a city was not a place of abject squalor.
There again Limerick people in general are very protective of their city.

How untrue can it actually be? Ireland, the depression and the many well-known depravities of the Catholic church in Ireland.
My guess the "lies" criticisms are less about specific factual inaccuracies than people just not wanting to see the their home portrayed as poor and cruel.
