I always thought this cartoon was too matured for kids since there was hintings of rape whenever Bluto abducted Olive and holed her up, demanding kisses. If popeye didnt come to the rescue. . . . . .

I agree, but Olive was weak to begin with, she always switched guys.

And by the way, why in the heck would she have gone off to be with Bluto anyway? He hops from job to job, and is undeniably fat.

Old cartoons WERE meant for adults, not kids. It wasn't really until the 70s, and really the 80s that cartoons began to be seen as "kid stuff." Think about it. How appropriate was Betty Boop for kids? Not very. It was the same with puppets. Originally, puppets were for adult entertainment. It was only later that puppets were seen as children's entertainment. There's a lot of really old cartoons I have seen which aren't really kid friendly. They were never meant for kids (originally). So, yeah, Popeye was also not really meant for kids.
