I'd would like to visit an alternate future where Gwen was in this instead of MJ and was killed off by Green Goblin.

I can't find a link on this. But I have heard originally Sam Raimi wanted Gwen in this instead of Mary Jane and to have her get killed off at the end by Green Goblin. But Avi Arad then came in and convinced Raimi that everyone would expect that. Still, if he had just let Raimi do what he wanted with Gwen in the movie, how different the sequels would've been.

The 2nd movie would might've introduced Mary Jane and they might could've had him give up being Spider-Man at the beginning because of what happened to Gwen. Then Doc Ock ends up having his accident and wreaks havoc resulting in Peter being Spider-Man again. That would've been 10 times better than him losing his powers. Plus Gwen wouldn't have been in the 3rd movie.
