No Consequences for Killing on Holy Ground

Maybe this was discussed in the earlier films or TV shows. I can't recall.

But Jacob Kell goes to the sanctuary where Connor and the others are napping...and slaughters them all. Even speaking aloud how he doesn't care about the game or the rules.

In the earlier films, I always assumed that something inexplicable would happen to an immortal if they killed on Holy Ground. Like their heads would just fall off on their own accord.

But in Endgame, there's no consequences for Jacob Kell at all. Why would any of them follow the so-called rules...if cheating gets you to the finish line faster? And no reason not to.

I think that was a mistake originally, and I believe they retconned the sanctuary part as not being holy ground. However I am not certain of this. In some of the series the idea is the world would react in some way for the violation. Tremors, lightning etc.

The sanctuary was not holy ground. It was a place that was meant to be a secret retreat, organized by people who didn't want the game to end.

The theatrical cut specifically said the Sanctuary WAS Holy Ground. However, this dialogue was removed on the DVD version of the movie.

It was a pretty bad mistake and a sorry retcon. On the commentary, Davis/Panzer say the Sanctuary is just disguised as Holy Ground. Lolwtf?!!!

Never seen the theatrical cut

It was never released on home video in the US. It's a shame as it was a better cut, IMO....
