Director's Cut?

1. I was wondering if the version sold in www.play.com is Regular or Director´s cut version?

http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R2&title=126202&p=57&g=72&pa=sr

The running time is 96 min, However the are no mention about Director´s Cut on the DVD-box.

2. Is there any point of having Director´s Cut version (does it add that much?), if I already own the regular 87 min version?

No, I have the UK (region 2) DVD.

UK (or PAL to be precise) versions of movies are always shorter than their US (NTSC) counterparts due to the difference in formats.

NTSC uses something called 3:2 pulldown to get 24fps of film onto a 30fps DVD. This means you get 3 interlaced (i.e. half) frames of cell 1 then 2 of frame 2 then 3 of frame 3. If you take this all the way through that gives all odd frames x 3 (12 * 3 = 36) + all even frames x 2 (12 * 2 = 24) so a total of 60 half frames or 30 full frames.

PAL on the other hand simply speed up the frames so you get a film 24/25 of it's original length. The audio is then reformatted to sync without going highpitched. A good example of this is 24. In the US, the first ad break's clock is precisely in sync with the DVD clock but in the UK it's usually out by about 25 seconds.

The end result is a 101 minute movie becomes 96 minutes 58 seconds in PAL.

The advantage of PAL is that it is higher resolution 720 x 576 instead of 576 x 480. The disadvantage is that the film/show is shorter.

Unfortunately the same problem exists with HDTV/Blu-Ray/HD-DVD (not that the latter will be around for too long I imagine!) which also use PAL and NTSC refresh rates instead of opting for 24p to match film.

there is no Director's Cut of the film. there are only 4 versions. the Producers Cut which is 101 minutes, the theatrical cut which is 87 minutes. the VCD version which is about 100 minutes, and the rough cut that is on the 2nd Disc of the US Producers Cut set.

the one shown on that url you posted is the Producer's Cut.

there are slight differences and re-edits in the Producers Cut, so i say you should get it , because it is slightly different but it is still the same movie.

I have the Director's Cut, they added a bit to the end that doesn't really make sense (i won't spoil it) but I guess if you think about the series as a whole and all the inconsistencies then I suppose that putting in an ending that doesn't make sense is a "good fit."

Also the action scenes are extended, however as long as you are not stoned or half asleep it's pretty easy to tell that they just loop the scene so it plays the same action sequence twice back to back (i don't think i explained that very well, just watch it and you'll understand what I mean.)

You might as well just get the director's cut, that way you can see the new ending once and if you don't like it when you watch the movie again you can just stop it at the original ending.

neither is superior to the other. they all have certain things that are good and shouldnt have been left out.

i prefer the theatrical version just cause its more dramatic.

reply

Me too and ofcourse that one is no where to get.

At least the theatrical cut had the Donnie Yen selfkill

i have the Theatrical Version, Producer's Cut, Rough Cut, VCD version with added Connor/Duncan action sequences, and a fan edit.

and though they each have great qualities. i still kinda lean towards the theatrical cut. cause as i said its more dramatic. sucks that its short in length compared to the others. but theres just something about it that i like alot.
and alot of people dont notice all the differences in it compared to the Producer's Cut. theres different music and dialogue as well as short snippets here and there.
most people think that the Producer's Cut is the theatrical version but with more footage. and thats not entirely true.

Maybe the theatrical is better 'cause Kate gets croaked??? >:) *snickers and scampers off*

The fan edit sounds interesting.

Methos: I never said I was deep.
