What happened to Connor's adopted son?

Connor had an adopted son, John, in Highlander 3. However, Connor tells Duncan that with Rachel dead, Duncan is the only person left in the world he cares about. Is Highlander 3 not considered cannon?

No one jokes when they talk to Terry Tibbs! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVYW-4zPKLE

The Highlander films are notoriously bad at keeping continuity, mainly because the end of the first had a definite end to the series, so the sequals always made a Connor Won-YAY!!! oh but there is one more 'big bad', to do this with the series would be extremely stupid so they went back and re-wrote the continuity-again, so this film has little links to the previous films and tries to link mainly to the series so given that Highlander 3 had Connor winning the prize, but there was one more they have simply chosen to ignore it in the series and film, just like they did with Highlander 2.

I know that they have linked the first film to this one, but in the series cannon the first film happened, but it wasnt the quickening and the prize wasnt up for grabs, so if you like only selected bits in the first film happened. I get it can be confusing but thats Highlander for you. Even individual films have more than one cannons (Highlander 2s many explanations on the immortals due to the different cuts)

I knew about Highlander II but had thought that III could still be canon to a point, just ignoring the fact that Connor and Kane weren't really the only 2 left.

God knows why no one foresaw these problems when they wrote the first film! Although I thought of a way that they could have painted themselves out of that corner. All they had to do was pretend that the four from Highlander I just had something wrong with their ability to sense other immortals. Then, after taking Kurgan's quickening, Connor's sense is restored, and he is suddenly aware that there are still hundreds of immortals left. Not perfect, but it still would have saved us a lot of problems.

I'm actually planning to take a day to watch all 5 films over Christmas. I might also throw in the first episode of series 1.

This was Cactus Charlie's idea.

I think you can look at it either way. Either only the first film is in canon or Alex and John met the same fate as Rachel. I mean, Kell says he's killed pretty much everyone Connor loved, so....yeah.

There was actually dialogue filmed between Connor and Jacob Kell where Kell mentions that he'd also killed Dr. Alex Johnson and his adopted son John (from Highlander: The Final Dimension).

This bit of dialogue didn't show up in the so-called "early cut" in the DVD set, but it did appear in other various assemblies, according to those involved with the editing. Guess they decided that "continuity" is too big a headache for your average HL fan, eh?

Universe 1 - Highlander 1 happens. The End.
Universe 2 - Highlander 1, 3 and 2 happen.
Universe 3 - Highlander 1, the TV series and Endgame happen.

Take your pick.
