Not bad but could have been better
The reason why it scores so low is because Highlander fans have been waiting so long for something to get excited about and Endgame comes so close but doesn't quite make it. It wasn't bad writing, terrible acting or awful directing that sunk it, it was studio involvement. The DVD extended cut is far superior to the shortened, butchered version they presented in theatres. This project had little to no support, a tiny budget and no real marketing. Basically, only Highlander fans who were looking for it knew it was coming. The concept deserved more respect from Hollywood than it got. As far as the story went, I liked damn near everything about it. Kell is a GREAT villain. That evil, vicious, vengeful bastard was a perfect rival for Highlander. Unfortunately, they turned Connor into a wuss and to get out of fighting Kell he lets Duncan take his head? I get his idea but it was useless and lame to kill Connor off. Completely retarded. This should've been Duncan's movie and if Connor had to be there, he should've served in mentor capacity or something of the like. Donnie Yen was underused. Period. Why the hell bring him into the picture to not do anything? The final fight was great. Only in a show like Highlander where the combat is mostly sword fighting, DON'T USE THE SAME SHOTS OVER AGAIN! They tried to extend the battle by showing Duncan looking around for Kell in the same spot again and again. That editor should have been shot! The Watcher subplot was awesome but nothing happened with it. The Sanctuary idea was cool but they finished with it too early for it to have reached it's full potential. Basically, this is a movie full of great ideas that they just couldn't turn into an actual story. At least a better cut was released on DVD. Too bad The Source can't be saved.
