How many versions of this film have you seen?

Personally? I've seen four different versions of the film:

1. 2000 Theatrical Cut
2. Bootleg Workprint Cut
3. 2001 Producer's Cut
4. "Official" Workprint Cut

Now, the majority of people here have seen versions 3 and 4, while some of us have even seen version 1 (which sometimes plays on the Encore channel as well)... but version number 2? I obtained a copy of this during the "theatrical window" in fall of 2000, and it's actually somewhat different from the officially released workprint that came out in early 2001.

While I can't remember all of the changes, it did have a different ending. While the official workprint had Duncan pick up Connor's tradition of donating a Christmas tree, the bootleg workprint used the ending where Duncan reunites with Faith/Kate. This is also slightly longer than the producer's cut version of the ending, as instead of fading out with them kissing, the bootleg workprint has them finish their kiss and Faith/Kate walks away while Duncan is left holding her pendant.

Also, the bootleg workprint is missing the scene where Joe tries to stop the renegade watcher from shooting Duncan after he has killed Connor. It's been years since I've watched either workprint, but these are a couple of changes that leap to mind. I'll have to go back and watch them both again and see what else I come up with!

I want to see the one again where Yen takes off his own head.
I believe that was in the theatrical cut, but that one is not on the DVD

The theatrical cut is out on DVD in a number of European countries where the Producers Cut has yet to be issued.

ive seen all four of those i believe. i have the Theatrical Cut which i must say i like watching only because it seems like a somewhat darker film, which i think was the tone they were going for all along. but it seems too short and a bit rushed.

the 2nd one , im not sure if thats the one i have, mine was referred to as the VCD cut, because it was on a VCD and had its own artwork. like yours it has the extended take with Kate at the end. the intro is also different. also features an extended shot of Connor walking to his loft, showing stock shots of different places. also has Duncan and Connor facing off against Kell in the final fight at that plant, which i thought was what would be in the Producer's Cut, but sadly wasnt. the score is also slightly different. havent seen it in quite some time so cant remember all the little details.

the producers cut and workprint i have on the 2disc DVD set. which i havent watched in quite a while. but when i first got it back in 2001, i watched both cuts like every single day for like 2 years straight. cause the tv series had not been on DVD yet, so this was really the only Highlander DVD i had aside from the barebones releases of the first two films.

i also got a fanmade cut of the film, which intercut some footage of the workprint into the producer's cut, along with some nifty edits and different music used in the opening credits and such. gives the movie a bit more of an impact with the emotion and drama

I saw it in theaters when first released (what a disappointment) and I got the official R1 DVD set as a gift, so I saw the two versions it had. So three. None were very good, unfortunately. Had there been no series or original movie, it would have been pretty good, but sadly there was, so yeah, pretty much...

What's in the "Workprint cut"?

I have the R1 dvd with Producer cut and official rough cut. And a fan made cut I haven't seen yet.

Watched the rough cut a while ago...and then watched some of the end of the producer cut just now...beginning with Kate leaving Duncan's place after they do it.

Anyway, I swear on tv and on the dvd cut they REUSED a fight scene. But I don't see it on the dvd in either cut of the movie. It was when Duncan fights Kell. A scene is clearly shown again for no reason...maybe this is just a weird tv version or the theater cut on tv I seen...

I've seen all of these. #2 and #4 were similar in terms of quality, but #2 did have the "Faith lives" ending. I got it on a Video CD off of eBay shortly after the movie was released in theatres here in the US. I ran a Highlander website back in the good old days of the net (Geocities and members.aol.com, lol!) and it caused quite a stir when I posted screencaps of the #2 version. God, I miss the old days of the internet sometimes!
