the ending

Hey everyone,

I own this movie and I still can't figure out the ending. I was just wondering if there was any significance when Jesse looks in the mirror at the end and you can see his reflection multiple times in the background, because it pauses for a really long time before the credits roll. Did I miss something going on in the mirror? Thanks!! :)

It's an evil F@#&ing room

I really didn't get the significance of that scene but some reason it freaked me out more than the entire movie itself.

It's just a creepy shot to end it on

But I think it does also symbolize the endlessness both his torment, notice how the picture of Racheal is also reflected, encircling him

And maybe also the endlessness of Carrie's reign in a attempt to pump people up for a third sequel

To the op, the mirror is cracked when he wakes up from the dream, before it was fine. I think it's supposed to mean has the power as well

reply

It was a dream that he had. She was an apparition.

Just saw this movie tonight and was hoping someone had an explanation for this scene. I really didn't get it either. I get that he had a dream/nightmare about Rachel coming back but then you hear a bell tolling, it zooms in on the clock saying it's midnight and it shows his reflection over and over. I didn't understand the significance of the clock or the reflections in the mirror.

I re-watched and the mirror is not cracked like someone else suggested. To me that would have made more sense...if the mirror was cracked it would be hinting that it wasn't really a dream and Rachel had actually been there. Otherwise, I dunno. Was it just supposed to show how he can't sleep anymore because Rachel is harassing him from the grave like Carrie was freaking out her friend in the first movie?

i have the script for the film (which is rare) and it says " Jesse looks in the mirror, where his image is transferred to the point of infinity. And we know he'll be looking over his shoulder....until the day he dies."

my belief is that he will continue to be haunted by visions of Rachel until he dies

reply

Jesse will forever be haunted by Rachel's memory and the events surrounding her death. He will never be able to move forward because he will always blame himself for what happened to her. He pushed the relationship with her and was forcing his friends to accept it.

Her humiliation was a result of Jesse lack of insight into his friends. He totally miscalculated his friends reaction to the Jesse/Rachel relationship. Totally.

That act of humiliation was more about him than her and he knows it when looks in the mirror.

haha I knew that is what it meant. it's funny because this movie came out in 1999 and I saw it in 1999, when I was in the 5th grade. I remember watching the ending and knowing that it meant that he was going to be haunted and feel miserable for the rest of his life. I had to get the movie again because I thought it was a powerful ending. I mean I kept thinking about it after seeing it for the first time.
