Cult references - Osho.
I'm not sure but I think I know which cult Ruth joined. Her fellow ashram dwellers mention their "sannyasin" names, which is a term the guru Osho used. Osho is also shown for a split second during the video of the cults.
If you want to experience some of the doubts Ruth must have felt, watch a few videos of Osho talking (plenty on the nets) and then read about the controversy surrounding him. But do it in that order and see if you can make up your own mind. It's not easy at all.
