Trust, not manipulation
I got the feeling that this movie was about two people who gave up their high-mindedness and trusted each other. Instead of trying to mold each other, each bent to the other's way of thinking. HK bent all the way, to the point of becoming a blind cult follower.
Everyone had his/her own shallow/flawed/twisted/crusty way of thinking, but HK and KW cleared the crap out of the way and leveled the playing field between them. KW was the most clear-headed, but she had been out exploring, so came prepared.
