So now Barney was the victim of "hate"? Could society get any more infantile? Yes, your older siblings made fun of Barney when you were in preschool. Get over it.

It's not just the older siblings making fun of the show. A lot of the program's target audience developed a hatred for it once they outgrew it and realized that the messages preached by Barney were unrealistic.

In Barney's world, everything was sunshine and rainbows, and everyone was "special." If there happened to be any sort of "conflict" (which was mild compared to anything in real life), the problem was easily solved and everybody was happy and singing at the end. Barney created false expectations about how life works, and was a set-up for disappointment.

Parents have hatred for kids shows that treat kids like they are stupid and it always felt that way with Barney.
