After seeing super troopers, I hoped that these guys would keep making hilarious movies. Then I saw club dread, and now puddle cruiser. Both are just awful. People were leaving the theatre during club dread like there was a fire drill, and apparently puddle cruiser was never even released, now I know why. Looks like broken lizard is a one trick pony, what a shame
Thanks for the report. I absolutely loved Super Troopers and was in tears laughing during that movie. Then bought Club Dredd when it came out on DVD and that had to have been the worst movie ever. I'll save my money and not even bother renting Puddle Cruiser.
aw man. How can you really saw that "Club Dread" is your favorite movie? I mean I'm ashamed that there are actually americans that could possibly even think that.
(listen, if you worked on the movie or that was some kind of joke, Im sorry)
eh....are you guys aware that Puddle Cruiser was made long before super troopers? At the point they made it, they were hardly graduated from college and had a budget of about ten dollars.
I don't mean to get pissy, but I'm so sick and tired of Super Trooper band wagon people.
For one, if you watch ANY movie expecting it to be something else, you'll be let down 99% of the time. So why do that to yourself? You're missing out on some good stuff if you continue to do that.
I watched Club Dread EXPECTING it to be different, and I was very happy with what I seen. It's my favorite Broken Lizard movie now. And that's because I watched it not expecting another Super Troopers, but expecting a different movie, and that's what I got. If anything, I'm happy as hell they didn't redo Super Troopers.
Which brings me to my next point. All you people that bitch and moan about nothing they do being worthy of Super Troopers are complaining now, and chances are good that you'd be complaining if they did another movie that closely resembled Super Troopers. It never ends with you people.
Watch something with an open mind for once, you might surprise yourself at what you see.
As far as Puddle Cruiser goes, I thought it was very funny. The fact of the matter is, Broken Lizard is a comedy troupe that has done numerous plays that they write themselves. The last I heard about either Puddle Cruiser or Super Troopers, I can't remember which, they wrote it as a play and thought it'd be funnier as a movie, so that's how it came to be. It was probably Puddle Cruiser.
It was their first movie and it was an independant film. It wasn't supposed to be top quality. It's obvious that it wasn't. And speaking of the budget, someone mentioned that it cost them $200,000+ to make Puddle Cruiser. Ok smart guy, do you know how much $200,000 gets you for a film? Not very much. With that budget, we're lucky the film was made in color at all. Remember Clerks? The budget for Clerks wasn't much more than that.
So stop complaining about your precious Super Troopers and open your mind up to something new. Remember, you wouldn't have Super Troopers if it wasn't for Broken Lizard, so why don't you support their other stuff instead of blasting it all the time?
I agree i bet if they made a super troppers two all of u would beit**ing about how they keep making the same jokes and how dry they movie was.
Now they tryed to do something new and i think they succeded with club dread. at first the movie comes off as a "what the hell did i just watch" movie but after futher review and actually listning to the jokes its actually really funny Also, u have to be a fan of the types of movies it is mocking It like that same people that critized scary movie when it came out they said it was garbage because all it was doing was giving crappy commentary on a bunch of crappy movies, and the only funny jokes were stinner jokes. but after watching it futher it stole the hearts of ammerica
So the moral after all this rambling is !. Don't take a movie at face value, if u do u will be let down, go in with no ideas a bout it just go in ready to watch a movie 2. never compare a writting team's movies, because when each one is made something new is going on in the world and in there lives
Hey, wanna go out for a beer sometime man? Party with some chicks? Eh?
Thank you. finally someone I can agree with. although, I didn't really like Puddle Cruiser, atleast someone finally agrees with me about Club Dread! I was literally on the floor laughing during that flik.
while i did enjoy all three movies, you should get your facts straight. clerks was made by far less than $200,000, not more. clerks was filmed for less than $50,000.
What's wrong with some of you guys? Super Troopers was great, it was hilarious as a comedy with some action. Club Dread was a spoof of other movies like that. Hence the Jimmy Buffett imitation! Puddle Cruiser was a good movie, could be listed as romantic comedy, but a good one, not a chick flick. You expect too much, or maybe too little, if you want the same thing over and over again. These guys have put out 3 very different, but very good movies. Do yourselves a favor, expand your minds and open yourself up to different genres. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you can't spot the sucker in the first half hour at the table, then you ARE the sucker.
Dude, 10 bucks says your some waiter at a diner who thought he coudl make it big in LA and hasnt had one decent part in anything. tv, movies, commercials. And your posts aren't informative or funny, their a waste of time, and if you think we'll think your oh so much better than the rest of us regular joe's, quit dreaming cause you probably live a crappier life living day to day with your crushed dream of becoming a somebody. The other post wasnt whiny or filled with B.S., one person has a differing opinion and automatically hes wrong and stupid. Yea sure, dialogue coulda been better but it won comedy awards at sundance, so that tells you that people thought it was funny.
The entire set of Clerks consisted of a convenience store, and video store. That makes it a little easier to work with a smaller budget.
I do agree though that this was a bad movie. The acting was horrible. The good point was that you could see the potential that these guys had to make a really funny movie, and they did it with Super Troopers.
I was every disappointed in this sorry ass movie. I was a big fan of Club Dred and Super Troppers but this was one of the worst movies I have ever seen and I should of never bought it. The only good use for the DVD now is a coaster. A *beep* $20 coaster!!!!!!!!!!!!!
okay okay the acting wasn't all that good... especially by lemme (felix bean). but there were a lot of damn funny parts in this movie that made it worth watching (garbagedick?). and it's clear that lemme improved dramatically by the time they did super troopers. also unfortunately the dialogue between felix and suzanne was pretty lame. overall i still liked the movie after watching it for the first time last night. i laughed out loud more than a few times, and that's more than i can say for most comedies that are being made these days. i'm definitely looking forward to Beerfest, and i think i'm gonna go rent club dread again. i liked super troopers at first, but it grew on me more and more as i watched it over and over. i have a feeling these other movies might grow on me the same way.
Thank you! People who constantly compare Club Dread to Super Troopers and now with Puddle Cruiser, you will most definitely be let down. Super Troopers is classic, but very different from the other two. Each is extremely funny in its own way and each is very well done by 5 geniuses who have poppped out some quality movies thus far. Look at Club Dread and Puddle Cruiser for what they are, not how they compare to Super Troopers. Your movie-going experience would have been so much more pleasant.
I don't care if PuddleCruiser was done by alumni for $250,000. The script was LAME AND IT WASN'T FUNNY!!! These guys are a comedy troupe? Dude, where's the comedy? Seriously, I love small budget films and struggling actor/dirctors that make it big; but these guys are just not funny...
ST was funny as hell. CD wasn't funny at all (didn't laugh once, seriously). PC was so-so, at least I laughed a few times. The DOH remake was great though, even if it wasn't technically done by broken lizard.
How can you guys not laugh at the Firsty Firsty Girlie Girlie, or the garbgedick, or you hear me counsler no bookbag no deal. You guys have no sense of humor.
i hope the dudes of broken lizard read these threads. they prove that everyone who isnt sucking their pee pee's on the internet didnt like club dread. i even watched that movie with an open mind and was glad they didnt make a super troopers 2, but it still sucked.
puddle cruiser was ok... better than club dread (even if you dont consider budget and experience). guys, if youre reading this, DONT **** UP ON BEERFEST. great job with super troopers, at parties ill ocassionally pop my head out the kitchen and say "who wants cream? nobody? ok no cream". its the funny lines like that that give you a winner.
I love the subtleties between the friends the most about this film. Of course, if you spent your teen's and early 20's sitting in front of a computer and/or TV without any real friends or human interaction than I can see how you could miss something like that.
I though ST was good, CD was a great deal better (more creative, better story), and BeerFest was a slip down by a couple of notches (it was cute, but essentially childish bathroom humor). (D/H remake was pretty stupid, but mildly entertaining.) I might rent PC if I have nothing better to do, but CD was really the group's best. Just goes to show ya.
