Best opening scene ever.
I'm just watching this again but it's been awhile. That opening scene has got to maybe the best ever to that point.

shareWay too long. QOS was better.
There is a man...he travels fast...he has purpose...he brings violence and destruction.
Ok I'm looking forward to watching Quantum of Solace now.
shareYeah! I agree with the OP! THE WORLD has an opening where we not only feel intelligence being stimulated but, there is that lack of nonsense just to please an actionfan audience, which I felt so rewarding!
shareTWINE had a cool pre credits teaser. And one of the longest in the series, too. If not THE longest. It goes for about 15 minutes. It was going to end with Bond going down the side of that building in Bilbao. But they lengthened it to include the scene at MI6, the explosion, and the boat chase along the Thames. I'm glad they did.
shareI don't know if I'll go with THE best. Certainly in the Top 3 and I won't argue vociferously with people who think it is the best. Given what we know about the ski jump to start The Spy Who Loved Me, I think that was a rather impressive one. And Casino Royale's was amazing because it was so simplistic and yet tense. Those who don't think that about CR probably also wouldn't get why Twelve Angry Men was such a great film.

No way. That car chase looked like it was edited by someone with ADHD. I got a headache from watching that slipshod work.

Yet I'm sure you literally climaxed while watching Bourne Supremecy.

I'm just watching Bonds I haven't seen - well it is a sort of bank holiday. My favourite is when he soaks the clampers! Result, and all of us who have been their victims salute you Mr Bond!
shareThe best opening sequence in the series? Perhaps.
Too bad the rest of the film is a dud.
I was thinking this when I re watched it recently. It does go on a bit, but it does incorporate the story, which is refreshing. I like how Bond is left holding on as the opening credits start. Some things that they incorporated into Brosnan's films were his injuries and predicaments; made it feel slightly more realistic, and what passed did actually happen rather than mere action for actions sake.
I recall QoS opening sequence being good too, but, I haven't watched it in ages as I thought it was a boring Bond film.
I agree. It is.
shareYes very good opening to the film. I also liked him abseiling down the building with the man to break his fall.
shareBrosnan, hands down, has the best opening sequences in all of Bond. Moonraker's opening is amazing as well.
Ron *beep* Swanson is the greatest thing that ever happened to television.
The boat chase itself is good, but I always thought the pre-title sequence went on way too long. It would have been cleaner and more efficient if it had ended after Bond rappels down the building using the body as a counterweight (which is awesome). I don't think there should ever be a Moneypenny and M scene in the PTS - that's just too much. The PTS is 15 minutes and it really should be about 5.
In my opinion, the best PTS in the series are You Only Live Twice, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, The Living Daylights, GoldenEye, and Skyfall. But that's just me...thanks for sharing your opinion!

It's certainly the best Bond pretitle sequence from any film to have a giant hedge shaped like a West Highland Terrier:

I thought the opening scene in TWINE was great, to, but I think the best one was actually in Die Another Day. It's a shame the crappy CGI in the second half of that movie hurt it so much.
sharePretty much all the action scenes were top notch.
I agree that the opening is one of the best in Bond series.
Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down and a Wagging Finger of Shame
It's one of the worst ever. Maybe it seemed like a cool idea in the storyboards though.
This scene, and every other action scene in the whole film, are simply terrible. Those boats in the 'chase' are going no faster than maybe 25 km/h. Same thing with those flying snowmobiles later on. Every stunt in this movie is so slow. Maybe the director thought he was allowed to speed up the film in the editing room and then was ordered not to.
