Ending

I've seen this film and have noticed that it seems to have two different endings. The one that everyone else seems to have is where Tommy goes to the bathroom, does his monologue and then returns to find everyone else gone. He searches the house and eventually goes to his room, finds it "empty" and as he turns to leave he's facing an alien. He goes into a trance and the film ended.
The ending i've seen is completely different. After the monologue Tommy returns to the kitchen and everything is as he left it. They start playing cards when all of a sudden the aliens stroll in. Everyone goes into a trance except Tommy who is screaming at them all to run. The aliens point their fingers and Tommy goes quiet too. All the family walk slowly out, in a trance still, led by the aliens. Another alien points at the camera(which Tommy had set down on the counter) and the screen goes black.
The bizarre thing is the scene in the first ending actually happens in the middle of the version i saw, where Tommy is face to face with the alien and he freezes. The alien wandered up to him, looks at the camera and then walks away. Tommy didn't seem to remember the incident.
Does anyone else know why there are two different versions of the film?

It seems, from reading up on the other version of the movie, that the one with the ending in his room cuts out a bit in the other version where Tommy goes to his room (about halfway throughout) to change his soiled 'pants'. In that scene, he turns round to be confronted by an alien who freezes him in time, looks at the camera, gives it back and walks off. Tommy doesn't mention it to the other characters though (an alien is captured straight after) which might be a logical reason why he doesn't.

Love the movie though, got it on video recorded off Sky, and it's on about twice a month on Sky at the moment.

ive got it on tape, the ending when they are playing cards and the aliens walk in, right through the wall like ghosts, this ending must be for the UK version. IN the UK version tommmy and kurt i think are looking for an alien in the house and tommy goes to change his pants having having soiled himself, the alien is in the room, tommy freezes, alien walks out, tommy starts moving with some sort of sigh and the film carrys on

reply

I live in the Uk and saw this tonight on telly (it scared the crap outta me!).
The ending i saw was the one with the card playing at the end. The bit with Tommy in his room and the alien was hiding behind the door was in the middle of the film (definitely the scariest bit of the film). But that scene also didnt make sense because for one thing you would have thought he would have told everyone about his face-to-face and another thing is how the heck did he get out of the room! Did i miss something or did it just move on to the next scene?

reply

Looks like you saw it when I did Okey_dokey! I was watching it with 2 children, who I have seen watch countless scary films, and be fine (Freddy Vs Jason, Kobolous... things that I couldn't of watched alone!) yet this frightened the HELL out of them (and me!), despite us constantly reassuring each other you could buy alien masks like that from anywhere.

I thought he would of told everyone as well, after the bit where he met the alien in his room, I thought I'd missed it because of comforting the kids! It just didn't seem logical somehow, unless we were supposed to believe his brother(? not sure - didn't watch it from the beginning) trapped that same alien?

the reason they made two versions is for the whole timeslot issue, if they only had time to show it as a special and not a full movie they discard the ending take the scene from when he changes his pants and make that the end. It's basically a very primitive version of milking it for all it's worth

reply

I'm guessing they made two different endings. Don't know why they included the "Tommy in a trance in his room" one in the middle of the version containing the alternate. It really doesn't fit well with the editing at all.

I actually don´t have a problem with that version at all.
His brother has a shotgun and is searching the upper floor. The kid with the camcorder of course doesn´t wanna run around with his pants soiled so he makes sure his room is empty, pops in to change his pants, but doesn´t check behind the door where the alien is hiding.
When he turns around after picking up the camera, the alien instantly closes the door and puts camcorderkid in a trance- or coma-like state. After looking at the camera the alien exits the room. The kid awakes and yawns, and then the alien is spotted by the brother who chases it to the room and traps it there.
Also, it´s not strange that he doesnt remember the incident. Either he was put in a trance before he saw the alien, and thus remembers nothing of the encounter, or the alien wiped his mind of memories of what happened when he "hypnotized" him.
After all, these are guys with superlasers who can cause people to have nosebleeds and develop painful marks :)

-You... you killed him?
-No, I shot him. The bullets and the fall killed him.

I don't know if this will be of any use to any of you, but after the intial showing of the movie, it was shown again, with added footage, much like Blair Witch was.

Some of the added footage seemd to contradict things that were in the first edit, others helped them to make sense. Just about everything was wrapped up in a bow of 'the aliens used their abilities to manipulate the family, causeing them to behave strangly'

Besides the ending, there was another big change, involving the little girl in a scene in the attic. But, since most of you have only seen the one scene, and my memory is getting spoty, I guess we'll never know what the change was.

I agree with what you've said but im sure the kid whos pissed himself says at the beginning of the movie that the camera has a light on it, so how could the alien not see him when the cameras pointed at him?

reply

The film was quite cheesey, but enjoyable until the end. I have never been so physically riled up and angry over a film before. When they were playing cards and the aliens stroll in, I actually shouted "THIS IS CRAP!", midgets in suits with crap masks pointing, it looked like a really bad rehersal with really bad actors. Such a shame, because it wasnt so bad before that.

I found the ending to be very scary. I thought the guy peed himself lol. I watched this alone and I agree the special effects were terrible ( lazer pens for guns) but it was a change of direction because recently horror films rely on special effects and gore like final destinations saw 2 ( doesnt make them bad these are still some of my faviourite films ) but this film really puts you in the sittuation an scared the crap out of me !!!

I saw this movie when it was first broadcast in the states...'98 I was twelve years old...I found the movie to be entertaining...I recorded it (but I've since lost it....wish I had another copy...)...it wasn't really scary...but what did get me was the final scene when the guy goes up to his room and the alien is there...I swear I was checking my room for at least a week to make sure no aliens were standing near my door. The way I remember it, the movie ends with that scene, the alien looking into the camera and then he walks out and it's implied that the alien and his cohorts bring terror to the rest of the family, but that bit about the family playing cards wasn't in the US version...

I just saw this yesterday, I heard about this film before because a friend mentioned it to me but I forgot the name of the movie. Amazingly out of nowhere I found it yesterday in this site. Unfortunately because I knew it was a fake it did take away from the film, I have to say most of the movie is pretty scary, and I have this abnormal fear of aliens but the ending dissapointed me. I saw the one where they were playing cards. I have some questions though, right after Tommy changes he goes out into the hallway only to walk right up to an alien. He stands there just filming him for a couple of seconds while the older guy with the gun appears to be only feet away from both the alien and Tommy, maybe I wasn't seeing right, but was the other guy being tranced as well or did he did not just turn around and look that there was alien only feet away from him? Also is that the same alien they killed?

reply

When he turns to face the alien and goes S@#T! as the door closes doesn't he just keep it on the alien and sort of circle or weave around it and dash out of the door and slams it shut behind him. I thought they just had a sort of stand-off for a second or two like he was frozen in fear and the alien was just regarding him curiously but he legs it before it has a chance to do anything, that seems to make sense and this is from the version where they do play cards at the end, the girl goes and unlocks the door (saying "i have other matters to attend to" which i thought was a nice touch) and comes back and seconds later the aliens stroll in; the end, not a bad bit of film making.

PS anyone seen the hoax this was based on it was totally hilarious it was like an even lower budget version of this and totally cracked me up, I'm sure its on youtube or something

reply

Iv'e just saw it yesterday on some video site (can't remember) but it seemed like what i was watching was different parts spliced together. As after the stand off with the alien the screen fades black and then after a view seconds i was treated to another viewers discretion warning and the film restarted.
So maybe when you first saw it you only watched upto a certain part?

reply

Umm no... I saw that beaujwa 'the following may be disturbing' crap and it was SUCH... SUCH a childish ploy..

*beep* HELL!
IS ALL IT TAKES A CRUMMY VIDEO WITH NO MUSIC OR SOUNDTRACK and a bunch of CRAPPY sound and visual effects to make u beleive ALIENS exist!?!

SORRY... BUT DONT DELUDE YOURSELF, IF ALIENS EXISTED AS OBVIOUSLY AND FREQUENTLY AS SOME OF U SADDOS BELIEVE ande have the ability to manipulate our technology like that WHY

WHY IN THE NAME OF GOD!!!

if they were truely trying to conceal their presence would they merely just LEAVE THE CAMERA (since it was OVIOUSLY implied they knew what it was) instead of just using their freaky deaky powers to turn it off AFTER it had recoreded EVERYTHING just short of a vocal confession by the aliens themselves...

...I'll say it again...

...Grow up...

...At least movies with santa claus have a higher budget
