I watched this film a few years ago and it kept me up for weeks (probably because I continued to watch it). No doubt my age had something to do with it but I thought it was real.
I have never seen a film using interviews, or warnings to create an atmosphere since or before the Mcpherson Tape and I think it was amazing, clever and origonal.
And the only reason i realised it was fake when I read the creditas at the end which said "Alien 1 - name" etc. Lol i felt quite stupid.
I havent seen it recently and I'm not sure if i want to... i like looking back at and thinking how scary and real it was, if i watch it now i'd probably see faults.
It's a couple of years since i saw it too. Just something i randomly downloaded but i remember it was surprisingly good.
I watched it in the dark on my own which adds to the effect and i was literally holding my breath in suspense at times, not an easy achievement for a film these days. The aliens weren't even scary looking, just your stereotypical "greys" but the lighting, the camera angles and the sound effects are what made the tense atmosphere. All the signs of a good film i guess as it stirs your imagination like a great book. I know what you mean about wanting to watch it again but not being sure whether it would spoil it. I never thought it was real but it's easier to lose yourself in the belief that it is because of it's real life appearance with no cheesy Hollywood actors and no over the top stunts or special effects.
i literally had nightmares when i first saw this. i was like 9. i was afraid to be alone at night. nothing worse than grey aliens with the big black eyes
i've grown over it a long time ago, but i still remember how damn scared i was

Wow, everyone who first saw this movie was probably 9! lol
Including me, too.
I wasn't scared when I watched it mainly because I knew it was fake. The main character was on Nickelodeon in "Space Cases" so I wasn't convinced. I also wondered why he kept recording everything. At least in my family, they would have told me to stop.
The part that really scared me was the end, though. He turned around and all of a sudden that alien was just hanging out behind his door and then they show him and he is frozen or something.
Interestingly, in the middle of it there was an actual black out or something because the screen went black for a long time. At least 10 minutes, I think. That was kind of freaky. It's so funny now to think about how we talked about it at the bus stop.
There was an extended version. The alien leaves him and Kurt ends up locking it up in Mom's room, then it shoots through the door so Kurt kills it by shooting through the door, a bunch of other things happen too, but the best part is the true ending where they're playing Go Fish and the little girl lets the aliens in and Tommy turns around and sees them and is apparently the only person who even cares, then the aliens turn off the camera with their psychic powers. Then the credits roll. "alien 1-4" lol.
i remember watching this when i was about 8 or 9 and i was SO scared that whole night after. my brother was watching it and i stupidly joined him and was hooked and terrified at the same time. i didnt even see the end, i was probably in tears! haha i was only 9!
I just saw it for the first time... I'm 18 and it scared the crap out of me. I could tell it was a fake thanks to the melodramatic moments which rarely happen in situations like this. I haven't seen Blair Witch Project but my mom was watching this with me and she thinks this vid is ten times scarier than BWP. I'm glad I found this tonight. I was bored on my Spring Break and this gave me some amusement.
I saw this movie for the first time about 2 years ago. I was... 31 at the time, and it scared the hell out of me! Alien abduction stuff always freaks me out though.
I like how the movie begins. I think it was the most natural part of the film (except the part where he's peeping on his brother making out with his girlfriend). And then I was awfully scared when the aliens were surrounding the house and you couldn't see nothing. At that time I was looking outside of My windows! xD But as the movie gets further and longer you start to notice some stuff and realize it's fake, but the movie is so good that when you figure out it's fake, you just say *beep* It's fake!" and then you give a damn 5 seconds after and keep watching it. That's how it was for me. I can't remember at what part I found it it was fake. But I wanna watch it again =P!
has anyone seen the other alien movie where there some dude that keeps catching glances of aliens out of the corner of his eyes. was kinda freaky and i was wonderin what it was?
I was twelve and my brothers where all between eight and ten. We all slept in the same room that night scared to death. Recently there was a clip on youtube and we started talking about with other people around our age and they all remember it too and how scared they were. I think there is a whole generation of kids running around scared of the dark because of this...lol
I remember watching this with some friends after coming back from a night out. we were all in our late teens and we just flicked it over out of curiosity. I think we came in just after the guys show the tape to the rest of the family (we later rewatched the beginnning). The first scare was when the mother of the little girl sees a face in the window and goes spastic. Great reaction!
All the way through the rest of the film the aliens are toying with this family and using electro-magnetic forces to melt car engines, make the lights flicker and send one girl into a coma.
The end cost me a night of sleep as the little girl goes out for a minute, before returning, and shortly afterwards the red glow enters the house followed by the strange shadows and finally, the family are face to dace with the aliens, before they are subdued and alien turns to the camera, distorting the image to static, which was a clever touch.
We all looked at each other, and were all scared stiff. one of my friends had to walk home in the dark, LOL!
I first saw this film a few years after watching Ghostwatch, I will always believe Ghostwatch and this film are the scariest stuff EVER! I am longing to find this on DVD very soon, I wanna keep on scaring myself forever!
^^ You are obviously too young to have experienced this movie like the rest of us. You can't watch it now and understand it, you had to be there. There was no "Blair Witch's or Paranormal Activity" when this came out. This was the first of its kind and it was aired as a true story, a true "found footage" film with no cast of characters ,directors, musical themes. To me everything after has been a futile attempt to do what this movie accomplished.
This is the only mockumentary that ever scared the crap out of me and I never even knew the name of it I just stumbled on it.
Nowadays, these types of movies are a dime a dozen so I can see why kids under 25 cant see the greatness of this movie.
Full version with people analysing it trying to figure out if its real or fake(for those who care):
I watched it just now, and i really liked. Wasnt really scary, but it was tense as hell, edge of your seat kinda of stuff. Really glad i saw it. Now iam watching Ghostwatch. I love these old "found footage" movies. If i were to choose between this movie and paranormal activity ( which i like, but they might as well go fvck themself with all the sequels ) i would pick alien abduction :-)
