As in you didn't like the 80's version?

I say you should hunt out the DVD set of this version, I thought it was damn good.

The new version is awful. The pacing is slow and emotionless. The acting for the most part is high-school level. Even William Hurt who is arguably one of the best screen actors working looks as if he's just mouthing badly written dislogue. The old version had speed and mystery but once again it is not a great movie. This new version is excellent if you can't get to sleep. Perhaps one day they will actually make a decent film of the novel which I read when it first came out about a thousand years ago.

So the acting wasn't that great, big deal. That isn't the only aspect of the series.

You said the Lynch version had speed and mystery. The speed was because the studio cut it to shreds and basically took out the substance. And mystery? Haha :) It wasn't mystery, that was just a film not trying to make true sense...

Dune is my favorite book and i think both versions suck. I wouldnt bother watching either of them, they just piss me off when i see them. Though you might enjoy them.

....oh that makes me laugh....the acting wasn't that great...big deal...where's the point in watching a badly acted film? my advice to anyone reading this post would be to stick to the book. The whole point of watching a film is to see it acted out visually.

This was more painful than the 80's version. William Hurt was so bad, I almost had to stop watching.

The thing that is most painful about the 80's version is that Lynch did a lot of things right. Unfortunately, he decided to make it his own, and changed some crucial aspects of the book. The casting in the Lynch film was nearly perfect, and his use of internal monologue was great.

The production values of the Sci-Fi channel Dune are just too cheap. It's closer to a show like Xena Warrior Princess than it is to something like the Lord of the Rings movies. The cast was also vastly inferior to Lynch's film. The set and costume design were more silly than epic.
