I don't think this is the case, and I haven't even finished watching the miniseries, but does the chambermaid play (not Mapes, the one who was there initially) any other role in the story? Or was she just window dressing?

I hated this scene in this movie cuz she does move around and blink so that thing should have have killed her right away.
