Lower your Expecations

I guess seeing they made this for 20 million it isnt that bad. But I thought I might offer some points to those who havent seen it yet so they can lower their expectations before seeing it.

1. This mini-series is for people who have read the book. If you havent read the book you'd find it difficult to follow.

2. The costumes are well... ridiculous and distracting. They look like they were designed by drunken tranvestite.

3. They've used alot of european actors in this version and their pronunciation is quite bad due to their accents, added to Frank Herbert's unusual dialouge and some of the scenes require the subtitles to be turned on.

4. The CGI effects are laughable. They look more like Computer Game cut-scenes from the early 90's !!!

If you can accept these drawbacks this series is passable fodder for Dune fans only.

Although I'm a little shocked they were able to get the green light to do the second series.

In response:

1. Dune is a difficult book to read let alone follow. To understand it requires at least two reads and the Dune Encyclopedia is a big help. The mini=series wasn't that difficult.

2. Wrong the costumes were better.

3. Just because they use european actors doesn't make any worse. If you needed subtitles you must be slow.

4. Sorry i don't rank movies on CGI. I base it on the story.

There was no drawbacks and as a Dune fan I rather watch this than a two hour movie trying to tell the story

I've always liked the Lynch version a lot, even though it's very corny. Heard good things about the mini-series on the board for the Lynch version, and I finally got around to watching the mini-series last night. Or at least, tried to. Lynch's version is a masterpiece in comparison to this crap. It looked like it was made on a $300,000 budget, at most!

I think that the way Lynch interpreted the book was excellent. It was different from the book, and a little condensed, but it was very imaginative. The miniseries, on the otherhand, was like the least imaginative interpretation anyone could POSSIBLY come up with.
