When will Sci Fi channel do another series like this?

The problem with most of the criticisms of this series (and, to some degree, even the original movie) is that they come from readers of the book. Readers of great book series' are rarely content with the film version. Even many diehard readers of LOTR were nitpicky and dissatisfied in parts.

The expectations are different. I know the Dune story quite well but haven't read all the books. Only bits. And have discussed it with friends.

However, this mini-series was underrated and very well done. I loved it when the Sci Fi channel had it on. I watched it 2-3 times in a row with my teenage son. We could not get enough.

There needs to be more of these sci fi stories brought to film and TV.

I do not criticize it as a nitpicker, and I know the DUNE books quite well. I felt the acting was subpar; some of the sets looked like they were filming a stageplay with wooden backdrops; many of the costumes were atrocious!

I have watched this and gained enjoyment/entertainment from it, but I, unfortunately, do not often expect much from scifi originals.

When will they do another series like this? Who knows?

I am a rabid Dune fan. I have been devouring the originals and writing essays on them for 10+ years. I must disagree. SciFi original movies suck, but their miniseries are usually very good. "Dune," "Children of Dune," and "Tin Man" are the first examples that come to mind, and I have the DVDs of all three. I thought the acting was very good, especially from the Baron, Chani, and Paul. I never even noticed that the sets were painted sheets (granted, I'm not the most observant of people). I felt the costumes were appropriate; after all, what changes will fashion undergo in the next 20,000+ years? More importantly, this is probably the closest, best adaptation we'll ever see. Brian Herbert is listed as a producer on the new movie. Need I say more?

I had seen the 1984 film as a child before I saw the miniseries. I enjoyed both this and COD tremendously, I wish there was more of this fare. I don't mind the effects and some of the costumes, the acting and direction were superb imo. And makes up for it. Besides since when do we expect a tv movie to be as grand as a theatrical release like LOTR?
