Operation Ruthless

Not long ago, about the time Skyfall was released, I saw a bio on TV about Ian Fleming.

During WW II, Fleming was an officer with the British Admiralty's Naval Intelligence Division. He devised an actual plan, never executed, that basically mirrors the core plot of U-571. The key differences were that, instead of a fake resupply submarine, the Trojan Horse in Fleming's plan was to be a captured German bomber ditched in the Channel, and instead of a disabled U-boat, the target would be a surface warship sent to rescue the fake Luftwaffe crewmen.

As with U-571, the objective was the acquisition of an Enigma machine, and more importantly, current encoding settings.

I just found that really interesting.
