U-boat made it to New York city for nickel, rubber and money. WWI
For real historians and fans of U-boats. A U-boat ran the North Atlantic naval blockade by the English. It made it to New York when America was neutral at the beginning of the first world war. A heroic welcome for making the trip. America stocked it with nickel and rubber and wall street loaned money to the Germans as well. Look it up if you don't believe it. The captain made many public appearances and stayed for at least a week. There are lots of photograph's and news about it at the time. I came across it during light research a few weeks ago. I think it was during WWI. I think it was on you tube, "The Cause of WWI". A seven part, 7 hour documentary, beginning with "Race to Arms" however not sure which episode this incident is on.
