Was Richie a realistic character?

OK, David Proval was good and it was a great character for the show. For dramatic purposes.

Was he realistic? Sometimes he seemed over the top.

reply

No

reply

He was definitely over the top, but I don't doubt that there are actually people like that in that world...

reply

Over the top how?

reply

The way he handled Beansie. His disrespect for Tony's position.

I know he is a volatile and violent character. However, even gangsters know there is a hierarchy that must be respected.

His contempt for Tony's position and authority. That seemed over the top. I thought Tony was very patient with him.

He lived a violent life and died a violent death. Oh well.

Was he realistic?

reply

You seem to be missing the point of the entire show, and much of TV for that matter.....

No, The Sopranos was not "realistic" sometimes. Writers have to use a bit of artistic license at times.

If you want a more realistic Mafia show, try Gomorrah.

I'm not "missing the point of the entire show, and much of TV" at all.

"No, The Sopranos was not "realistic" sometimes."

Of course not. That is obvious.

I was simply asking if the Richie character was realistic. In general. Not any specific scene or incident.

Do you understand now?

reply

Well your post makes him sound realistic, lol.

Being patient with someone is not the same as having respect or wanting to be around that person, which Tony pretty much since day one made clear. Also, much most had contempt for Tony's position and authority.

Richie, was a bitter loser who handled Beansie the way he did cause he could and knew it would make him feel better.

Realistic? Over the top? Compared to what? Other fictional characters in TV and movies?

Unless somebody's in the mob, I can expect a realistic answer

reply

No. Going after Beansie a second time after Tony told him to back off would have put him in the ground. Outright insubordination to the boss of a family is not tolerated in that life.

reply

I don't think he was unrealistic at all. while I'm sure the the majority of mobsters aren't like him, there are definitely some Richies out there, I've read about some real psycho and loose cannon mobsters over the years
