Casting Choices You Disagree With

I love this show but, I really don’t know how casting brought Steve Buscemi-Tony Blundetto onto this show. Steve is a great actor but, I just felt he wasn’t the right fit. What do you guys think? Who do you disagree with on their casting?

Ray Lliotta was originally supposed to play Tony Blundetto. I can't help think there would have been more tension with him in the role.

The only real cast member who I thought sucked was the guy who played Jackie Jr.

I thought Buscemi was ok, but Liotta would also have been good for the part.

I knew Liotta was asked to play Tony Soprano. Didnt realize he turned down Blundetto as well. Crazy

Considering the sheer number of characters this show ran through, I think overall they did a superb job in casting. I had no issue with any of them.

I agree with the OP. If there was one major casting decision in the series that was questionable to me, it was Buscemi. He's a great actor and I love him in a dozen roles, but I don't think he was ever believable as a notorious Jersey Mobster.

Steven Van Zandt was a little hard for me to accept. Not terrible, but I thought he overplayed the role a bit.

reply

Yeah, I can see your point BUT there were some scenes he NAILED hard. So it was worth it.

My favorite was a scene that he shared with Adriana La Cerva(Chris' GF).
wink wink

I agree Buscemi didn't really fit in AT ALL. Another guy I didn't think fit in was Robert Patrick as the gambling addict, or David Lee Roth in a very small role as a poker player. Finally, the guy that played Vito was great in the first character he played(Gino) but awful as Vito.
