There is an auto-drip coffeemaker in one of the scenes. The first one came out in 1972.
The killer drives an early '70s Ford Econoline van (possibly a '72 or '73).

Plus it references Dean Corll who was a serial killer in Houston who wasn't discovered until after he was killed in 1973.
