This movie + American Pie define my senior year 1999!!! - Varsity Blues (1999) Discussion

These are two of my favorite guilty pleasure movies for sure. I graduated from HS in 1997, so I wasn't too far removed from HS myself when these movies came out. Hard to believe that both movies have been out almost ten years now.

im a little older(class of 94) but i remember the year these films were out. It was a great year for films and i remember going to see a LOT of movies on friday and saturday nights before it was time to go out clubbing(this was before bars had to close at 2 am and we partied all night).Being 23 ruled!

Bottoms Up and The Hottie and the Nottie are the best films EVER!

I graduated in 1999 as well... I am watching this movie for the first time today and I have never seen American Pie.

The only connection I see to this movie and 1999 is that I was a high school cheerleader back then and I dated the football captain (from another high school). But you're right, everyone was quoting these movies that year. I miss the 90's.

If I had to pick two movies that defined my senior year, its Varsity Blues and American Pie. As a high school graduate of 1999 these were the two movies everybody went to see, and everybody talked about and quoted the rest of the year.

For me I can relate b/c we had the power hungry *beep* of a football coach nobody liked, and we won states too. We didn't kick the coach out unfortunatley though.

Plus, all of us were horny as hell and trying to get some like in American Pie.

Two great classics that define 1999 and the end of that decade

I was '99 as well and did in fact see this movie in the theater. Enjoyable back then (a bit of a guilty pleasure at this age) but damned if Eyes Wide Shut wasn't the big deal/blockbuster I recall most vividly and was the biggest deal for me around graduation time. It is also a film that stood the test of time unlike this one (and to a degree American Pie). Also, I didn't grow up in a small town so noir-chic movies would have appealed to me as much as a typical high school pre-frat-house-row title....

I was a freshman when this came out. The only thing I found impressive about it was the Foo Fighters song.

C/O 1997. The OP is dead-on when these movies were the hit back in the day. I can relate to Varsity Blues more. I'm in NC but our lifestyle is similar to the TX lifestyle with the jacked-up trucks, parties, etc.
