I'm sorry but for this to be some state championship winning football program they hardly had any black players on the squad. Look at any Texas state title contending team....loaded with, big, fast, strong black athletes.

Charlie tweeter was their fastest wideout?? LMAO....dude was five foot five in heels at best. There are some high school teams in Texas that could easily beat some division 1 college teams.

My god, you mean white boys can play football, too? You don't say?!

Just look at the demographics of the town. It's mostly white. So... wouldn't it make sense for the team to mostly comprise of white players?

I went to school in a small town in TX. There were no African Americans in the entire town.

This was done intentionally. To show that the head coach was racist. Plus portions of Texas do not have a large African-American population.

Right, teams in Houston are going to have a much different racial makeup than teams from small towns in West Texas.

I saw no evidence the coach was racist. Why do you think he was? Because the black kid said so....?

1) We know the coach was all about winning at any cost, so if he had some more/good black players available he would hve played them

2)It was made clear the coach liked a running game. Hence wide receiver not getting many touchdown passes as easier/safer for team to bulldoze it into the end zone.

3) If the coach didn't care about the players, why would he bother to boost one kids stats (to get him into a top college) at the expence of another player? Surely he'd do whatever was best to get the win for his team.

Perhaps the black kid was just bitter that the QB was going to a top program. He was also perhaps a bit deluded, thinking he was good enough to go to Texas A&M when only a minor school interested.
Wouldn't be the only kid to think they're good enough to play at elite schools just because they're a good player in their tiny town, but compared to players in the rest of the country, they're only average.

Wendell was a running back, not a receiver. And the reliance on the running game is exactly why the coach appeared racist. He used Wendell to run the ball down the field but then had Lance sneak the ball in from close distance. Wendell makes this very clear when he complains to Mox. A reliance on the running game should lead to lots of TD's for a back like Wendell. The fact that he was not given the ball close to the goal line could certainly be evidence of racism on the part of the coach.

Permian(Friday Night Lights) didn't have many black players and won state a few times even against all black teams. That would never work in the pros though...oh wait, almost the entire Patriots offense is white and shredded one the best defenses ever in the Super Bowl.

They are in a very small town. In Texas there are state championships in 5 different classes based on the sizes of the schools. I grew up in a small town in Texas and we had 2 black people in he entire high school. West Canaan is meant to be a small town. Not everything is about race...

Texas has had many top football teams from schools that are all or nearly all white. Superior coaching and discipline frequently trumps speed and mindless showboating, particularly at the High School level.

I don't see being 5'5" as a barrier to being fast. He would not be good with jump balls and things like that, but he might be fast and agile enough to be a good receiver. He has more of a slot type build, or maybe a running back. Being short is not a barrier to being a running back, you see some short, stocky, strong and quick guys who are short and do very well running the ball.

Michael Owen was a soccer player who ran a 10.3 hundred, which would make him incredibly fast in the NFL. He was 5'7" I think. Some short guys can really fly, and being low to the ground is an advantage when it comes to being shifty.
