Will this never be on Bluray?

(region 1)

Is it because it's black and white and perhaps not a high-quality print, or any other reason? Two years later, Aronofsky did Requiem and that's out on Bluray...

There is no region 1 for Blu-ray; that's DVD. Blu-ray uses regions A, B and C (the US is A).

Pi is actually getting a Blu-ray release from Lionsgate in the UK (region B) in August, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it released in the US either.

*Edit* I've got a check disc for the UK release now and it looks exactly like you'd expect for a film shot in Super 16, which is to say DVD quality.

So you got to see a copy of the blu ray early and you couldn't tell the difference between that and the dvd? I've seen some old movies that had to be shot on Super 16 that did look more crisp on blu ray.
