Stock goof
So here's the thing:
The computer prints
AAACE
6 1/2
-8 1/4
AALR
4 1/8
+2
And then starts spitting out what we're later to learn is the 216-digit number.
The lights go out. Max screams in anguish. As he's changing fuses, the voiceover says:
"Results: *beep* Euclid predicts AAR at six and a half. AAR hasn't been beneath forty in twenty years."
Later, he grabs a paper from a guy in the subway, and looks up AAR. The "closing price" for AAR is 14 1/2, down 8 1/4. His gloved finger actually points to ABR, which closed at 6 1/2, but is up 2.
There is nothing consistent. It looks like they were trying to make up ticker symbols, and the AAACE numbers on the computer display matches the AAR printed in the paper, but it doesn't close at 6 1/2 and doesn't crash from forty.
ABR in the paper closes at 6 1/2, but also doesn't crash from above forty.
And even though the newspaper headline is "Stock Market Nose Dives", most of the stocks we can see are up or unchanged.
